Here is a recipe that doesn't have tahini in it.

Tofu hummus

14 oz. firm tofu,drained
1 can[15oz.] garbanzo beans,drained and rinsed
1 clove garlic,chopped
1 tblsp.sesame oil
1tsp.salt,or more to taste
2 tblsp.lemon juice
Blend all ingredients in a food processor or blender until smooth.Serve at room temperature or slightly chilled.Serve with crackers, toasted pita triangles or bagel crisps. Can also eat with raw vegetables. Makes 6-8 servings.

I think you can get tahini on the baking aisle.

Can also eat  plain when eating at the soft food stage after surgery.

Hi Peggy,

Your recipe sounds great! I have never tried hummus made with tofu - good way to add in some xtra protein.

By any chance do you have the nutrition information?
If not, I can put it into sparkspeople....

thanks!
Joy

BTW - I usually find tahini in the section where they sell international foods - or middle eastern foods.

This is a cannellini bean dip, very similar to hummus.

1 can Cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
juice of 1 lemon (or to taste)
1 garlic clove
olive oil (this could possible be omitted)
water (adding to thin out as desired)
salt & pepper to taste

Put beans, lemon juice and garlic clove in the food processor and pulse.  Thin with water to desired consistency and add salt and pepper to taste.  It is a little smoother than hummus.  Sometimes I add a little parsley to make it look pretty.

And since I'm just banded, I'm trying to re-configure my recipes for when I'll be able to eat again.
