is there a software that anyone recommends that will calculate the nutritional value of a recipe?  For instance, I made the a sugar free/fat free watergate salad tonight and I was curious about how it would break down on the charts.

Hey there Lisa,

Give this sight a try (just copy this link to your brower):  http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp

You enter in your ingredients, and serving size, then your nutritional value is calculated for you. I use it quite a bit.

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in
Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

If you're looking for software on your PC, I like The Living Cookbook.  (Has a 30 day free trial)
Here: http://www.livingcookbook.com

For online, I like The Daily Plate at http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate

I'd be happy to run it throuhg the living cookbook for you if you want to see the results. Just need the recipe :)

I hope you don't mind me jumping in Mary, but I would be grateful if you could run through the living cookbook the following recipe:
If you can't, no worries.

Tofu hummus

14 oz. firm tofu,drained
1 can[15oz.] garbanzo beans,drained and rinsed
1 clove garlic,chopped
1 tblsp.sesame oil
1tsp.salt,or more to taste
2 tblsp.lemon juice

Blend all ingredients in a food processor or blender until smooth.Serve at room temperature or slightly chilled.Serve with crackers, toasted pita triangles or bagel crisps. Can also eat with raw vegetables. Makes 6-8 servings.

It sounds great and just stole it from another post.

Thanks!

I use a recipe organizer called Big Oven.  You are able to use copy and paste to bring recipes into the program.  change serving sizes.  Calculates nutritional information.  Search your recipe boxes for specific recipes.

I also use Weight by date.  it is a compute and PDA software that is to help you track exercise and what you eat.  It will track the nurtrients that you pick (carbs, protein, calcium, vitamins).  You can put in your recipes and it will let you know how you are eating for the day.  It will also track your exercise, weight, measurements (waist, arms, thighs, chest, etc).  You put in a goal weight and it will estimate when you will reach this goal based upon the weights you input.
