Remembering back in the day

I just love that phrase "back in the day".....

but hey smells, and tastes and experiences sometimes bring me back to my childhood during springtime and early summer that I want to relive over and over...and for those who know me...I remain "child-like" (and sometimes childish)...however...

I still crave something simple...    remember when you'd enjoy a big slice of watermelon and you'd sprinkle some fresh salt on it and it would just burst with that tangy yet sweet flavor that just took over your tongue?  I do...

BUT I grew up (arguably) and although my tastes have changed, my lust for delicious simple foods have not...

so now I take and slice the watermelon into cubes.....and I drizzle aged balsamic vinegar over them and am instantly taken back to childhood...  when is the last time you got to enjoy your youth again? ...........................   Well that's just to long....

Yum!  I just made a watermelon, blueberry, balsamic and mint salad - SO GOOD!!

Watermelon was my favorite summer thing growing up with lots of salt - thanks for the memories.  I upgraded from regular ole table salt to some coarse sea salt - yumm-o!

Watermelon with salt????????????????????????????????

My childhood fav.  was witting on the back step at my Grammas dunking fresh from the patch rhubarb into a bowl of sugar..........YUMMY!!!!

as an adult I still like fresh rhubard only peeled and cut up with a light sprinkling of salt.

Take care,
Michelle

Well i must admit that I haven't eaten much rhubarb, only sampled a few rhubabr pies now and then...hehe

BUT you ladies may not have tried something else that is wonderful...and yes I know it's strange..   Boiled peanuts!  Yes...  and they are so good!  Check them out on the web, lots and lots of people enjoy them.

Back to the watermelon with salt...  as a child in the New Orlenas area, I was introduced to all foods that are southern.....  most everyone would sprinkle just a pinch of salt on their watermelon and enjoy the contrasting tastes of sweet and sour.  Now that I'm older, the tastes are still there, but I know what adding aged balsamic vinegar can do to a nice piece of watermelon that the old salt couldn't....ether way, I'm still a kid eating tha****ermelon on my front porch.....

Growing up in SW Louisiana & East Texas, you didn't have watermelon at any function without a salt shaker. I miss Sugar Town Mellon's(from a small town in Louisiana) from back when I was a kid. Here in Oklahoma they have some pretty good melons, but not as good as those years ago....
My mission tomorrow is to find a water melon!
