What can I use a Soda Pop substitute? I have many recipes that call for soda pop and it seems to just give punches that zing not fizz I'm not looking for the carbonation factor. I'm not suppost to have it but I'd tried punch recipes without soda pop that call for soda pop and they are different enough that you notice it flavor wise. So what I can I use in place of soda pop like Ginger Ale or Sprite? Thanks so much christine (internetnut)

I always use diet sodas. If I'm baking, you can't tell the difference anyway. You're not going to find a substitute for carbonation as carbonation is just that - carbonation. I'm a rule breaker and drink diet soda's anyway (1 or 2 a week) - so I don't have much of an answer for you. But good luck.

In baking what recipes do you have that call for soda in baking? I've seen soda in salads and desserts and I wasn't sure if it was ok to have that way or not. Don't get me wrong I'm a rule breaker to I've tried soda since so many here can have it, but the fizz just gets my belly. I to do the diet soda and mixed in something it doesn't bother me as bad but I'm afraid of making it a habit. Thanks christine (internetnut)

I use diet soda's in place of the oil when I'm baking.
Soda has never bothered me - somethings if I sip too fast then the bubbles are a pain but normally I'm ok. That is me though.

I think the issue in mainly the carbonation.  Could you let the diet soda go flat and add it to the punch?  I know a woman who had a Lap Band and would take diet soda (orange, black cherry) Vanilla protein powder, yogurt and ice cubes and blend them to make a smoothie.  She said that the blender got ride of the carbonation and was ok. I have never tried it.

I'm up to try it but our Diet/Nut said the Carbonation is still there. I think as a treat once in a while mixed together should be ok. Thanks for the tip! Christine (internetnut)

My nutritionist said the same thing.  She said the temperature of your body brings the fizz back.  She said it doesn't work and not drink pop, but from time to time I just have to have me a nice cold diet.

That's interesting to hear.  I have not missed the soda enough really want to try it.  I am happy with my crystal light.
