Hi all,

I am really craving a thick (like McDonald's) milk shake. Obviously I need a SF version, but darned if I can create anything relatively tasty. I like chocolate, strawberry, peach, and coffee flavors. I have lots of SF Torani, if that's an ingredient. Protein-free is fine, as it will be a small indulgence and I get my protein throughout the day, but recipes with protein powder are fine too.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Ah, what you need is some protein ice cream, soft-serve to a bit runny. Try this page for a whole list of flavors: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2008/08/protein-ice-cream.html Alternately, if you could drink a smoothie, I mix a cup of frozen berries, a splash of fruit juice, a scoop of protein powder, and a cup of yogurt, and get a thick, cold drink. Hope that helps a bit

I have hated protein shakes from the start but knew I needed to drink them so I experimented until I found a recipe I liked.  It is very thick depending on the liquid you use.  I mix several at a time and keep in the freezer then add more liquid and blend.  They have a thick creamy consistency just like a real milk shake.

Mix 1 cup milk (1%, skim, coffee, almond breeze, etc ) wtih 2 scoops of your favorite protein powder.

split mixture into 2 servings and freeze (I use the zip lock containers)

When frozen take one and put in microwave 12-15 seconds then break into 4-5 pieces.

Put in blender (I use a magic bullet) with 2-4 ounces of liquid then blend till smooth.

My favorite combinations are to use chocolate unjury with 1-2 teaspoons of dark chocolate cocoa powder (cuts the sweetness) then blend the frozen mixture with 3 ounces of strong cold coffee.  Sometimes I add other flavors as well - caramel, raspberry, cinnamon, etc.

Try different combinations.  I still drink 2 shakes a day and this helps me with my sweet fix.

Hope this helps.  Shelli

I like to make thick smoothies by freezing bananas and strawberries.  Then put milk and fruit in the blender together.  Add frozen fruit to desired consistency.
Also, if I want chocolate, I use milk, frozen banana pieces (to thicken and sweeten) and SF Nesquik.

If you don't want to use much fruit, try adding ice and use less milk but a bit of powdered skim milk or protein powder too.

Hi Jo,
I saw this post of yours just now and thought about how I've totally craved a "real" milkshake since getting PG too!
Here in Canada we have a chain called Tim Horton's and they make a great ice capp drink but with enough fat and sugar to honestly probably kill me post-op.  But, if you are OK with a little caffeine during PG (I generally have a serving a day anyway), I found Big Train NSA Blended Ice Vanilla Latte mixes (I think you can get chocolate too).  They blend up SO thick and icy.  The only drawback is that they have 9g of sugar alcohol and being PG this can mean serious gas pains for me.  So, before I drink one I take a Gas-X strip and I don't have them very often, maybe once a week.  But, I think when mixed they only have 70cal., 3g fat, 2g sugar (but only 3g prot too).
Anyway, wanted to share this find as I think they are scrumptious!
See you on the other board!
