Avocados question??

How do you know that an avocado is ripe?  How do you keep it from turning brown?

I bought two and they were both "ivoryish-green" (best way I can describe) inside and very hard.

Thank you for your response!

They are ripe when they are soft to touch, but not mushy. Put them in a warm spot for a few days. After you cut into the advocado either use it right away or put lime or lemon juice on it, in it ( ie guacamole) to stop it from turning brown.

One  thing I learned from a South American friend of mine - do not use anything metal with avocados.  Use a wooden spoon and a non-metallic bowl.  According to her, metal makes the avocado turn brown.  Hope this helps!

If I lived on the moon, I would only weigh 24.4 pounds.

To make your avocado ripen quicker just put it in a paper bag with citrus of some kind.  It should be nice and ripe within a day or two.  Enjoy!!!  I love avocados!!!

A Brazilian friend of mine said, never use metal with it and when you are done put the big seed in with it when you store it in the fridge and it will slow down the browing process.
