Help! Stocking a low carb kitchen...
I will have a VSG soon. Seeing all the yummy recipes here, it's becoming clear that I need to completely restock my kitchen. I don't have any of the wonderful ingredients I see in your recipes. So...
What do you consider to be staples in your kitchen now that you are eating low carb healthy?
Thanks fo your help!

Heya Jerri!
First and foremost....
Flax meal....you can add to soups, or desserts or whatever.... lotsa fiber, super low in carbs.
Eggs, bacon (who doesn't love bacon?)
Creme high fat percentage...nothing low fat unless the doc says....
Xanthan gum- to thicken sauces with little carbs....
balsamic vinegar..not low carb but sugars will cook down to a lower carb rating.
Coconut fiber---- the fiber is processed. We're not allow to have straight coconut but this portion is good for you as far as fiber is concerned
All forms of splenda- brown sugar, regular, fine blend, you name it, you need it.
these types of flour: (all are very low carb) Coconut, Almond, Soy-i hate the taste of soy, but some peeps love it... I love coconut flour...
mustard....all types...powdered, brown, yellow...you will use them all
Honey....sonds like not low carb but during cooking you can use a tiny amount for tonsof floavor and it doesn't all stay on the food....
Butter....two types....clarified or real butter.... no more margerine or substitute.... you skim enough on taste..let's eat the real stuff... like our creme
Wine...yep buy it....cook with it...learn how it tastes.... when yo cook a meal, take a small portion on the side after the rest is finished, and add wine and let it sit for a minute..then take a bite...
herbs...grow them inside...all kinds...fresh takes time to learn to cook with, but later, you'll never want to use the bottled kind
Oils- virgin olive oil for saladsand adding to recipes, Canola for frying...
Shallots- never use an onion when a shallot can be found....mix with real butter only...
Kikkoman soy sauce kick in the flavor
Citrus of all kinds.... I love lime and lemon the most, but there are so many things you can do with an orange from sauces to glazes, to garnishes
heat.... peppers... seasoning to make certain no one calls your cooking boring...make sure you're not cooking for a sensitive tummy though...
Cheeses....a billion cheeses and I'm still not able to eat them all....
Weird spices....like curries, and things you've only heard of.... all of those people in other countries must be right about a few things they like to eat....try some new ones...
the list goes on and on... if you need an ingredient that you can't put your finger on...gimme a shout, i'm at your service...
In addition to the list above - you may want to always keep boneless skinless chicken breasts. For that day that you just have no idea what to cook, throw a chicken breast on the george forman or in the oven and you can do so much with it. Or, just throw it on a salad. Always a staple with low carb eating.
Good luck!!!!
Good luck!!!!
Please forgive my ignorance - but what is a VSG???
I'm a HUGE fan of tomatoes, cooking with different broths instead of FAT.....etc.
Just read & re-read your labels.
Things to avoid (just like diabetics)...anything yellow (except squash) and white (except cauliflower).
Now, sounding like an oxy-moron, if you find yourself about to pinch somebody's head off because you are craving carbs....go ahead and have a bite or two........but STOP there!
And as I was informed in the beginning..........."keep your eyes on the prize"! You NEW and GORGEOUS body! :)
Keep us posted about you! :)
