Christmas Cooking Traditions
I'm kind of curious to find out what type of traditions do you have in your family. Especially now that the holidays are here.
On Christmas Eve, my family has chili and pumpkin pie. My father was the oldest of 5, whose mother was 3rd in line of eight girls. Needless to say they did everything big in those days.
During the depression, chili was a staple, and pumpkins were aplenty.
So the story goes, Dad, his siblings, and cousins would come downstairs to find pots of chili on the counter and many pumpkin pies on the table. Each child would get their own pumpkin pie for dinner. That's it. The adults could eat the chili, and there would be enough for families to take home and share. So each year, Dad allowed us to eat pumpkin pie first, and then if we were hungry, we could have a small bowl of chili. Dad passed away this summer. So my Mom, my sister and I are sticking with tradition. I miss his stories, but this one was definitely one to share with the crowd!
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

Amber, your family tradition brot a tear to my eye!! Our tradition is to attend our church's Christmas eve candlelight service. Nothing is open (not even Tim Horton's) so we come home, make coffee, and a light snack. Christmas Day is not rushed at all--no little ones yet!! So all the tradional food is cooking for our "big" dinner around 3 pm. Then we will open gifts, and then dessert. We will play some games, maybe watch a movie, and later in the evening, some nibblies will be put out!! I too love to read what everyones' family traditions are....Remember, Jesus is the Reason for the Season!!! Patti K.
