Thanksgiving is coming up soon. Does anyone have any good recipes? I love my green bean casserole and was wandering if we are able to have it, even if it is minus the onions.

This is my 3rd Thanksgiving since WLS. I have to admit, I usually cook the same old things, just eating less of the carbs. I use extra eggs in the dressing for protein. I make the same turkey because it's protein. I make potato salad and cole slaw as usual. I don't avoid fat. I have a distal RNY so I malabsorb fats. I try to avoid sweets and carbs. I also always have raw veggies with low calorie dressings, and green salad since WLS. So some things have changed for the better.
If I were avoiding fats, I would use low fat margerines, low fat mayo for the potato salad and cole slaw. I would also use olive oil for any oils if I were making any fried foods or as a coating on roasted vegetables. Low fat cream of chicken soup makes a good gravy for the dressing. Using fat-free chicken stock is another idea, for whipped potatoes for example. You can also use it for seasoning in green beans or to boil corn and leave off the butter spread afterwards. Baked sweet potatoes with Splenda tastes very good ( brown sugar flavor) and sweet potatoes are a good food after WLS. I think you can make great food if you just change up a few of your ingredients to make it healthier, and it will be better for the whole family.
As for onions, I eat the heck out of onions, and haven't had any issues with them. The fried onions are the worst part of the casserole, because you can use fat-free cream of mushroom soup, but the onions are a problem with the calories. Maybe don't have the breaded fried onions, just fry up a few plain onions  in a tablespoon olive oil with any breading. Not as crispy, but they will still be tasty!

You have gotten some great suggestions from others on the meal itself.

I just posted a few pumpkin dessert recipes below, on the thread "Pumpkin???"  Maybe these will help you out.

Tell someone that you love them!

This will be my first Thanksgiving since having surgery.
And since it will most likely be just my brother and I, it will be easy to plan the meal around foods that cater to my needs
Since my brother only eats white meat, I will make a turkey breast for him and 2 turkey thighs for me(those will make plenty of leftovers).
Mashed potatos for him, mashed cauliflower for me.
For the stuffing, I will make the homemade bread stuffing for him, and for me I'm going to add all the stuffing ingredients except the bread to some cooked Quonia and bake that with the turkey.
For veggies, peas and corn for him, brussels sprouts for me.
Desert will be something store bought for him, and a baked apple for me with some sugar free cool whip.
So far thats my menu. Good luck!

Sher,
I've MISSED you so much!!!!!!
(I still have your birthday present I have to send to you)
Hmmm sweet potato pie with no crust? uhhhh how can that be pie? It will be something to work on though. That reminds I have a good recipe for mashed sweet potatoes with cream cheese and walnuts. But brother does'nt like them so its not worth it just for me...well maybe. My grocery shopping is getting better, but not much. I had freezer issues and had to empty it and defrost it. I threw out 4 garbage bags of old freezer burned food! Everytime I call you I get your machine. When are you home?
