Angie, I've searched high and low for a recipe that would be good for WLS patients...and there's nothing that I could find that isn't horribly high in carbs due to the corn content of the tamale.....maybe you could just make a traditional tamale and only eating like a bite to kill your craving....

I tried!

Thanks I probably couldnt do that because there is way too much fat in the masa! I dont want to have my stomach like freak out! My mom had been trying to figure something out and she said that someone recommended to use rice instead of lard we are probably going to experiment soon so I will let you know

For some things, there is no substitute.   A Tamale - now that's one of those things!

As long as tamales aren't in your every day diet plan - having 1 really tamale once in awhile is not going to kill you. As previously stated, there are some things you just can't make low cal, low fat, low carb, ect. you just make the real thing. Our surgery is a tool - we are not on a "diet" for the rest of our lives, we're learning to eat healthy but also in moderation.
