I LOVE fresh apple sauce, could you just sub the sugar with splenda?

I don't have a recipe for applesauce, but I do grate up different apples....Put in muffin tins or small ramikins. I then pour Sugar Free Maple syrup over them...sprinkle with cinnamon and add some shopped pecans then bake until the apples are tender. You could use a little Splenda brown sugar to sprinkle too... You could do Sugar Free cinnamon  or caramel syrup or any flavor as there are a lot to choose from.
Sorry, but I just do and haven't created a recipe for this yet mainly because it is just myself here, so I only make a couple at a time.....When I crave sweets I make this....It is easy and since I live alone. Many people love a slice of cheese on their apple pie so this is possible too...I haven't had the surgery yet but being diabetic, I try different things....Maybe this will give you an idea for your apples! I have done this with fresh peaches too.

Some apples don't need any sugar at all, if they are sweet you could try as is or maybe a sugar free maple syrup (or a small amount of the real thing). A mix of different types is good too (combination of sorts like, Red Delicious, Gala, Fuji, Rome, not Granny Smith).
Just chop up (most peel first, some don't). You may need a little water, use high heat to start, then turn it down to medium and cover, add cinnamon if you want.  Depending on your quantity, 15 minutes may be enough to get the apples completely soft. Mash or grind to your liking.  If you taste and it's not sweet enough, add Splenda.. If you're not "canning", you can freeze it.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I am being told no splenda for me but I like the syrup idea....That could work. We freeze it and do enough to get the family through the year so I wanted to make sure I had mine too!!

Thanks,
Kim

I found 3 recipes on Recipezaar but this will only allow me to post 2. Christine (internetnut)

Microwave Blender Gourmet Applesauce or Compote (Sugar-Free!)

Directions

  1.
  2. 1
Peel, core and cut apples into small chunks.
  3. 2
Place in microwave safe casserole dish with butter and cinnamon.
  4. 3
Cook uncovered on high 10 minutes (stir a few times).
  5. 4
Let it cool a bit (I'm impatient so I only wait like 3 minutes).
  6. 5
Put the apple mixture in the blender (or food processor I suppose) and puree until smooth.
  7. 6
If you prefer it chunky, leave out some of the apples and add them to the puree.
  8. 7
Or if you want a compote, don't blend it at all.
  9. 8
  10. This is yummy as is, but if you enjoy a hint of vanilla, then go ahead and add a dash.

    Sugar Free Applesauce

    Directions

    1. 1
Chop apples coarsely, but DO NOT peel or core.
    2. 2
Add apples, apple juice and lemon juice to heavy based saucepan.
    3. 3
Simmer for 15-20 minutes, covered, or until apples collapse.
    4. 4
      Stir through concentrate.
    5. 5
Place a coarse sieve over a large bowl and using a large wooden spoon, press cooked apples through the sieve. (This separates the skin and seeds from the puree.) This is probably the hardest part of the recipe. I had to have a few rests doing while doing this! It would be good to have others around to help out with this bit. lol.
    6. 6
      Discard leftovers in the sieve.
    7. 7
The apple sauce is now ready to serve, either hot or cold.

Here's the 3rd. None of them use splenda. Christine (internetnut)

Sugar Free Crock Pot Strawberry Applesauce

Directions

  1. 1
Put all ingredients in crock pot. Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours or high for 4.
  2. 2
With a slotted spoon, spoon apples in to a food mill and process over a large bowl. Sauce will be thick, you can add some of the crock pot juice if you like.
  3. 3
Depending on the tartness of your apples, you may choose to sweeten.
  4. 4
If using sugar, do so sparingly until you get to desired sweetness.
  5. 5
If you want to freeze ladle into freezer bags and gently press out air, seal, and lie flat in freezer.
