Question for Eggface (Or anyone else who can help)

I have a question about making soup.  I make at least one pot of soup a week.  It is usually a creamy soup.  The nut told dh the other day that I should add protein powder to it since we both have trouble getting in all our protein.  How much protein (unflavored) is enough but not too much to alter the texture or flavor?  One of the standby soups is a copycat recipe of the Outback Walkabout Creamy Onion Soup and the other standby is a Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup that I got the recipe for from the Canada exhibit in Epcot.
Thanks for the help.

It's the things that you do, that you don't have to do, that determine the difference when it is too late to do anything about it.    Author Unknown

Phyllis,

I LOVE soup and mke a lot for myself...however putting protein powder into it isn't something that i've even tried and I cook a lot!  So my only warning would be to watch out for grittiness...  so many protein powders are so gritty!  I use "nectar" and is not gritty in the least, BUT there's no unflavored one that I know of in the Nectar line of products.

So I hope this turns out for you....  if not...focus on broccoli and some finely chopped meat to substitue for protein losses.

See ya,

T.

Just an FYI. Nectar does have an unflavored protein powder. it is called Nectar Medical. It says that it is for mixing with food. I have not tried it but I do like the nectar proteins. Skye

JayRobb.com has an unflavored whey protein powder.  Use 1 scoop for 24g protein, 115 caloris and 1 g carb.  It worked well in my chicken broth the first few weeks I was on liquids.  Check the sodium content before buying if you have sodium issues.  I found it a tad salty (but I don't usually cook with salt).  I also blended some chicken or tofu with some broth (I use my Magic Bullet) to get extra protein.

Please post the recipes. :-)  We'll be knee deep in winter before we know it.

Sure you can add it to the soup but you want to add a scoop to each bowl, not the entire pot.  Warm up a bowl if it's 1/2 cup which is 4 oz's so add how many scoops it calls for for 4 oz's.  I hope that answers your question.  I just haven't been able to stand any kind of protein shakes so far, I am getting ready to try with coffee soon to see if I can get that down.  I have been wanting to up my protein because my cancer is back and I still can't get them in even after 2 and half yrs.  So good luck with this and I hope it works for you.

I use AnyWhey.  It is THE ONLY protein that is made specifically for cooking that withstands the high temps and retains all of its nugtritional value.  I get it online or at the Vitamin Shoppe.

Hey there.  I am a regular poster on the VA board and a lurker most of the time here.  I have posted a few times...more questions than posts, usually!

Yep, down 260 lbs.  I am feeling great and lovin life.  I thought it was forever but....well, I am going to be gaining about 40 pounds back over the next few months.  I have no doubt that I will lose that and any "extra" that I need to...just give me time!

How are you doing since surgery?

I'm off to a great start!!  Down 81 pounds so far.  So, I'm 1/3 the way to being in the "normal" BMI.  I feel incredible.    I'm trying to learn how to cook more healthy, so this board has been a godsend.

You're going to be gaining 40 pounds?  Are you having a baby??

*hugs*
