Broth and water. Any other great suggestions for the newbie? Not really hungry but concern that I will be. Also, any suggestions on protein during this phase. Thanks.

Hi Gina, when I was first banded I stuck to chicken broth, beef broth, skim milk is also some added protein.  It is hard to get all the protein in at the early stage, and it is more about healing. I made my own chicken and beef broth because I found I could not tolerate the store bought ones. I also had some liquid proteins like Isopure. One thing that worked great for me also was Light Manhattan Clam Chowder run through the blender, it had tons of flavour while being very high in protein which most soups aren't. I bought it fresh made from a Whole Foods.

The other thing I did was make "vanilla egg custard" and that works cause it melts in your mouth.  I found the recipe in a book, but there is a message board run by the same woman who wrote the book and I have gotten some great recipes from there - www.beforeandafterhelp.com  .

Congrats on joining the band family and best of luck in your journey!

If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution!

Gina,

Depends on what your post-op instructions are.

Clear liquids: broth, water, Crystal Light or SF Kool-Aid, SF jello, SF popsicles, Unjury chicken soup flavor protein, and Special K protein water.  You could have juice too, but I avoided it because it's so high in sugar.

Full liquids: all of the above, plus FF milk, protein shakes made w/ FF milk, soupy cooked oatmeal or cream of wheat, light yogurt, SF pudding.

Check out eggface's site.  She has lots of suggestions for protein, purees, etc. etc., including many recipes for protein ice cream that would be fine in the full liquid stage and are so good, it's worth investing $20 in an ice-cream maker.  Here's a link: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/
