Can anyone tell me what they taste like.  I have never had one.  What can you do with them?  Any receipes without all kinds of spices.  I don't eat spicy food.  Thanks.

I like mine with cottage cheese.  Just mash 1/4 of an avacado and put a big spoonful of cottage cheese on it.  I like a little salt.  Or just mash them up with a little lite mayo.  When you buy one make sure it's only slightly soft.  Too soft is over-ripe.  Or buy a hard one and let it sit out a day or two. They taste sooo good!

They are amazing thinly sliced in sandwiches!!!  I have also been known to mash them up and use it as a mayo like spread on rice cakes.

I LOVE Avacodos! Jus****ch the fat...I know most of the fat is the good stuff, but it's still fatty!

Chunked in Salads
Sliced on sandwhiches
Eatin directly out of the skin with some salt and pepper (I love this)
Fresh Guacamole

I love quacamole mixed with cottage cheese - it's a great dip! (Pre surgery I would have dipped chips into it, but now I'm sure it tastes great with homemade cheese crips and veggies!)

As for the taste. Have you ever had guacamole? Avacodo is the main ingredient. If you have fresh guacamole there's often times a chunk or two of the Avacodo that didn't get mashed.

Try one! If you don't like it - send it to me! hehe

I never ate avacados until a few years ago. I was about 51! I love them!!!!!! They taste so good. They have a bit of a buttery taste to me. They are so good just plain and I also make guacomole too. But not as often as I use to before surgery. You can make the guacomole not to spicy or spicy however you like it. They are just good plain too. I think you are going to like them.

Being from California and having an avacado tree in my yard I use them in everything.  I use to put them on bread (no longer eat bread).  put it in tortilla soup, serve it with scrambled eggs.  Taco salads, serve with chicken, eat plain with a little salt.  And least you forget it goes great it salsa.

Baked Avocado

Slice avocado in half and leave in peel.

Dice some raw flounder (1 filet)

Thinly slice 1 roma tomato

Spicy Mayo (Spicy Mayo, chinese hot sauce, lime juice)

Directions:

Place avocado in a baking dish, pile half the fish on each avocado half, place tomato rings on top and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.. Bake on 350 until fish is done... Serve warm with chilled spicy mayo drizzled on top.... Enjoy!

Edited to add: Tastes great without the spicy mayo too. :) Just squeeze the lime directly instead.

Avocado's should be their own food group...  :)   I love them, but it's one of those foods you either love or hate.

Favorite way to eat them is like gaucomole - as a topper for taco's, taco salad or fajitas (cooked at home).

Take two large, ripe (skin should be a little soft to the touch) avocado's
Peel and mash them
add diced tomatoes, sweet or red onion, very finely diced jalepeno (if you like a little kick), lime juice (about 1/2 a squeezed lime) and fresh cilantro.
Mix up, add spices - salt, pepper, cumin (secret ingredient), garlic powder

I keep this on hand often at home as we eat a lot of mexican food (low fat versions) and it keeps the food moist.

I've also been known to slice and eat them with turkey lunch meat and a little salt/pepper.

Without some salt/pepper, they tast pretty bland.
