Get some smoked turkey wings or drumsticks, add some onion, celery and carrots and make soup.
I make this with lentils in the pressure cooker or crockpot and make a sort of stew. Using lentils and the smoked turkey gives me double the protein. Remember split peas do not contain as much protein as lentils.

When I make split pea soup I add smoked pork chops and the onion and such. I just cook it on the stove but the crock pot would be good too. I use the crock pot when I make bean soup. I have a bag of lentils and I am going to making the lentil soup soon. I love that and it is loaded with protein too.

Split pea soup

Sort split peas for stones. Rinse peas

Cover with 6 C. water
cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour adding water as needed, or longer.
I also add chopped dry onion and 2 grated carrots at start of cooking time.
and 1 bay leaf ( put Bay leaf in a tea ball or you wont be able to find it)
Remove Bay leaf before eating from tea ball .If you dont have this wrap Bayleaf in cheesecloth and tie with string.
