Hi! I love to make recipes from Eggface's site but can't afford the almond butter ($11.99 a jar!!).  What can I use in it's place?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you have any gourmet nut shops or a grocery store that has speciality foods. Some times they have the machines so you can grind your own almond, cashew or peanut butter. We have a grocery store ( Ingles) That have the machines. Way cheaper. 4 or 5 dollars per container. One thing about the almond butter one container goes a long way. I've made several of Eggfaces protein bars (about 5 versions) and several other recipes that call for peanut butter (I have peanut allergy). You could probably could use peanut butter. I would try to find one with as little fat as possible and no sugar added. Maybe an all natural peanut butter. Most of her recipes call for 2 tablespoons. So its not alot. I hope that helps. Hi Teresa, Thank you!  I'm going to do some shopping around today and tomorrow.  I don't know of any stores that have grind your own but there are several whole food stores I need to check.  I couldn't believe the cost at Hannaford &Shaw's, I have a budget to feed 4 people and that definately didn't fit into it.  Eggface's Protein Banana Muffins are what I want to make so badly.  I made banana muffins for my kids last weekend and did the stats on recipe.com.  YIKES 287 calories per muffin!!  Of course I have been able to think of nothing else all week.

I use cashew butter instead. Much cheaper and I prefer the taste. Hope this helps. Diana
