Does anyone out there recall (or have access to an old cookbook) an old weigh****chers recipe from the early-mid seventies for baked apples?  I remember my mother used to make it and it called for sugar free berry flavored soda to be poured on the apples and then baked.  Does anyone have an old WW cookbook hanging around? Thanks! Nanci

Nanci, I found this... Does it look familiar? Cece 6 Baking apples (Stayman, Rome, etc) (up to 8) 1 (12-oz) cans Diet Black Cherry or Diet Raspberry Soda (up to 2) Ground Cinnamon (optional) Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Wash and core the apples. Use a vegetable peeler or paring knife and remove the skin from the top third of the apple. Place the apples, peeled side up, in a glass deep dish pie pan or other baking dish. Pour soda over the tops to fill the holes and leave about 1/2 inch to 1 inch of liquid in the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired. Cover the pan with another deep dish pie pan or cover. Bake until soft, basting occasionally. About 1/2 way through, you may want to turn the apples upside down so that they take on the pretty red color and sweetness of the soda. (It is also easier than remembering to baste them.) Just remember to turn them right-side up when you remove them from the oven. Store them in the liquid. Serve hot or cold

I think it will work!  I guess I expected it to have some other ingredients than the ones I already knew. So do you have one of those old cookbooks?  Maybe I'll search for one on ebay or something. Thank you! Nanci

I know, I was surprised too at how few ingredients there were. Sometimes simple is best!! No, I don't have a WW cookbook that old - I googled it & it took some doing but I finally found it!!! I was curious when I read your post so I had to look!! I do have 2 apples in my fridge that I was going to make baked apples with but no soda... I may just make them the traditional way - I am jonesing for them now!!  Definitely check ebay - god knows I've found stranger things out there!! Good Luck!! Cece

Ebay does have a ton of WW cookbooks, but I don't know which one it's in.  It might be in the original  one from 1966.  I'm going to try to find out. Thanks for doing that work!  That was very sweet. Nanci

Here is one I cound on line from one of the blogs of another one of us here . Carmel Apple:I mixed 0% Fage with Dolce de Leche sugar free syrup and one Splenda, and I dipped apple slices in it.  Good.  Really really good.  What a great snack.  So healthy and so good for you.  If you can't find Fage.....just get some plain yogurt till you can find it.  Works too.
