Beef Stew by Dame Tooter 1 pound of beef steak cut into 1-inch cubes 2 tablespoons Pancake Mix (or Carbquick Baking Mix) 1 tsp. Paprika 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. Pepper 1/2 tsp. garlic powder 3 cups beef bullion (you can make this using 3 bullion cubes and 3 cups of boiling ho****er - or make homemade or use canned) 1 medium onion, peeled and minced 4 cups Turnips, peeled and diced (do these at least 3 hours in advance if you want to get rid of the 'turnipy' taste. Soak cubed turnips in just enough milk to cover for 3 hours - drain and discard milk) 1 cup of baby carrots, diced 2 stalks celery, peeled and diced 1 can of short-cut green beans, drained 1 can of whole kernel corn, drained (optional) 1 cup of Carb Countdown milk replacement (or your choice of milk/milk replacement) 1 heaping tablespoon corn starch (or 1 tsp. Graham's Quick Thick'ner) In a ziplock style bag combine Pancake mix, paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Add meat and shake to coat. In a large stock pot heat about 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil over medium heat. Shake excess flour mixture off meat and add meat to pot. Brown, stirring frequently, scraping bottom of pot to get the 'good stuff' off the bottom. Add beef bullion and onion to pot, scraping bottom while stirring to incorporate. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer on low for 2 hours. Add remaining vegetables to the pot and continue to cook for another hour. When turnips and carrots are nice and tender, combine the milk replacement with the corn starch and pour into the pot, stirring constantly. This should thicken the 'soup' nicely. Taste and season as desired with salt and pepper. Serve hot.

I can't eat beef so I use the 99% fat free beef broth. One small head of cabbage one large beef broth one small onion two ribs of celery 4 potatoes two tablespoons of garlic coo****il almost done add one large can of tomato paste one small can of corn one can diced tomatoes one small can of green beanss one can peas and carrots finish cooking salt and pepper to taste. this makes a pretty good size pot so I save it and eat all week. I haven't figured the protein but it does have it. I reheat mine with hot sauce to make it spicey and use v-8 spicey also. Lea Ann
