I don't cook

I have approx. 200lbs to lose and I am not sure how long this will take. Recipes and cooking are not something i enjoy. I am still on pureed foods (3 week postop) but curious when I start eating proper meals next week can that include things like lean cuisines or other frozen diet meals???? Or is that just maintenance food after you have lost all the weight. I will be cooking for myself and the idea of a 2 ounce piece of chicken laying there with a tblspn. of veggies does not help my already depressed state. Jennifer

Jennifer, I'm a DS'r, so I hope someone else also replies. I never had pureed foods - started on soft foods 2 days po and at 2 weeks could eat whatever I wanted, so I know our paths are different. I cook, but in the 2 1/2 mos since I was switched, we put our house up for sale, 2 kids had to be moved out of college dorms, baseball season started....you know -- life keeps happening! I have used frozen dinners for those meals I'm eating alone since about 6 wks out and have had no problems. I like the South Beach Diet ones pretty well, especially the chicken (very tender and in sauces). I rarely eat more than a bite or two of the veggies (they get over cooked -- blah). My weight loss has been great-- 76 lbs so far, so it isn't slowing me down. I hope this helps, we all have to find our own way but it is easier and more fun with friends! Kim

My Surgeon said soft foods for 6 weeks once I am 2 weeks post op. So that includes anything that can plop off the end of a spoon (i.e. cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.) It also includes deli meats. I'm not sure what your restrictions will allow, but I recommend batch cooking. For example, get a bag of frozen chicken breasts, poach them all. cut them into cubes or slices or shred them, whatever, then measure out 2 oz portions and stick them into baggies. You can freeze most of the baggies and pop them into the microwave to heat up. good luck

Hi! I just saw your post and I'm right there with you! It seems women don't quite know how to respond to women that don't cook. I had RNY on 02-06-06 and I'm struggling constantly with what to eat and end up eating the same crap just because I'm not sure how to cook or not in the mood to cook. My dietician felt that the South Beach frozen dinners fit better with what we need to eat. She doesn't like any of them really...but I was desperate for an answer. OK...great...those are high protein and seem to nutritionally work well. Problem...I can't seem to tolerate the frozen meals?!?!? Once in a while, I could eat one and it was mostly ok...all the other times I don't know if it's the preservatives or what...but they just don't work. My next problem...I'm trying to cook for one. Well good grief...lol I am still searching for answers and just wanted to let you know that you are not alone!! I did just find some recipes that seem to be easy and just for one....so now if I can just get the motivation to actually cook them Take care of you!! Loved your post Tammy, especially the emoticon that is vomiting!!!!. Just thawed a shrimp ring and had several with a bit of ****tail sauce. Had a piece of toast earlier with peanut butter but its horrible not being able to have a drink of milk with it!!! Chili with some no fat cottage cheese mixed in is getting tiresome and I'm only at 2 months post op!!! Chicken is not my friend right now. Lost the taste for it and it makes me queasy thinking about eating it. Had a steak last night and i had no problem with that. I was truly meant to be independently wealthy and have people cook for me. I realize I have a long road ahead of me and was starting to feel a little overwhelmed at my food choices in the days to come. I will have to keep my eye out for the southbeach frozen foods.I have not seen them in my Grocery store. Baby steps each day....... Thanks again for your email, Jennifer

Jennifer, So sorry that I'm just getting back to you. My computer had crashed and I have been working to recover everything. Well, I must say, your posts crack me up too! Finally!!! someone that understands me! I can't tell you how many times that I have made the statement that "I need to be independently wealthy and have people cook for me!" Tooooooooo funny! I am now just over 5 mths out and can tolerate chicken (grilled) in very small little bites...but it was grossing me out before. This surgery does such weird things. I can eat chili or say a taco with no problem. If I get just like a hamburger patty, it takes good for a little bit and then all of a sudden, I feel like I'm eating raw meat and feel like I might hurrrrrrrrrrrl. So strange! I keep plugging along. Mainly, I just eat the same crap everyday....but I am learning as I go. Take care of you!!!! Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help....sounds like we are two of a kind. Tammy
