Tom, thanks so much. I guess the more I read and the closer I get to my surgery date, the more scared I become. I did manage to eat more today and I also drink more fluids. The nausea is not as bad, I just don't want to eat(what is going to happen when I get banded?). I did call my doc and spoke with a nurse. I told her about my difficulties getting the protein shakes down. She made some suggestions and how to incorporate them into other foods such as s/f jello. I am going to attend a support group on Tuesday and look forward to speaking with others. I haven't had coffee for two days, but I plan on drinking some decaf this weekend. I do appreciate the support more than you will ever know.
Just know, I never take anything personally (even if directly directed at me). I just like to clarify things for those newbies who may be asking "well I heard THIS and now he's saying THAT".
You, my friend, have been very diligent in not only keeping up on your own success, but helping others. We're lucky and blessed to have you here!!

I did not mean to imply that you were wrong. Interpretations are different. I see that in the amount of food per meal I am supposed to have:ONE oz of protein only and 15 g of some (good) carb. double-checked the protein amt with my nutritionist and I was correct: one ounce. I love meat and all types of protein so maybe someday I can/will be increasing it but fornow I listen to my "team".
We do all have to look out for each other, don't we? Have a great day!
Kim,
As always, each Doctor/Nutritionist has different views/rules. With that said, most agree in the beginning there should be no caffeine in our liquids.
The reasoning is because we need to take in 64 ounces of liquids in daily. Caffeine is a diuretic, and makes us expel water. In order to compensate, one would need to drink 2 ounces of non-caffeinated for every 1 ounce of caffeinate drink they consume. So a person drinking an 8 ounce of caffeine would need to drink an additional 16 ounces of non-caffeine just to get to the “0" starting point.
Since most people have issues getting 64 ounces in, especially in the beginning, requiring them to have an additional 16 (if not more) ounces of liquid in would be dreadful.
After 6 months, some Doctors will tell their patients they are permitted to have some caffeine, but they need to offset it. Other Doctor’s stay NEVER have caffeine.
And I've known Doctors who permit carbonated drinks. Funny how it's all open for individual interpretation.
Since caffeine is addicting, I was trying to suggest to Purple39lady to ween herself off instead of going cold turkey. Especially since she hasn’t had the operation yet. This way it reduces the body’s withdrawal period.
Love to see you’re looking out for your bariatric sibling!!!

Hope everyone is having a great week and ready to start the holiday weekend. Hard to believe that a third of this year is almost over. If you have today off work....have a great day. If not...make the best of the day that is given to you. I have a wedding shower later on to go to for my oldest son and his fiancee. They have 3 weeks to go till they get married. I am so excited for them. As I think about life....we ALL have so very much to be grateful for. Whether we are homeless and down on our luck ( I know that there are lots in that situation that desperately need our prayers ). We are such a blessed nation....too bad that we aren't more grateful for things and don't take things for granted. PLEASE feel free to share with us what you are grateful for today...here are a few of the things that I am grateful for........
For my WLS and my life since it,
For my 3 sons and future daughter in law,
For my husband's job and all the benefits that we have with it,
For my home, health, for food to eat and a warm or cool home,
For my fur babies and their unconditional love shown toward us,
For my Faith and answered prayers,
For the Reason for the Easter Season,
For all my friends here on OH and all the blessings that you have brought to my life,
For the upcoming OH Conference in New Orleans, La. Sept 9-10. Should be awesome !!!
Have a blessed weekend and enjoy your family and friends this Easter !!!!

I guess what I call restriction is more like an appetite suppressant. Because the truth of the matter is, if I wanted to I could eat and eat (I just don't want to). What I was told is when I get to my optimum fill level (or the green zone) I will feel satiated with 4-6 oz of lean protein and 1/2 of veggies...with no hunger for 4 hours after my meal (every doctor is different). Now if you put 10oz in front of me and I'm not careful or I'm being a pig I can eat all 10oz. So when I say I have restriction I mean I am able to eat this amount and feel satisfied. Am I saying that I can't eat any more....no I could eat more if I wanted to...but I had to train myself to stop when I am satisfied NOT full. I was so used to stuffing myself that it took some practice.
I do have to say a acidy feeling could be a symptom for being too tight. I would talk to my doctor about that. You don't want to be too tight. When the band is at a good fill and you follow the band rules you should NOT be PBing, throwing up, or have an acidy feeling. If you have those things happening that not restriction that "too tight"
Restriction is a funny thing and we all should stop using that word...I still do. I think we should say we are at OUR optimum fill level. What you should feel when you are done eating is satisfied. Not full to the point if you eat another mouth full you are going to puke.
I'm sure Tom will explain it better....he has a way with words.
