BIG EASTER UPDATES!!!

So, I saw most of my family for the first time since my surgery yesterday. I had seen my mom and aunt about 15 pounds ago, so I don't really count them. Anyway, I walked into lunch and the reaction was awesome! I was actually a little embarrassed that they were making such a fuss over me, but it felt great to show off the "new" me. It's funny to see the reaction of the men versus the women. Take this example:

Woman: You look so great!
Man: You look so much better...

I'm not saying this happens with everyone, but in my family, it's pretty much how it goes. I just smiled and said thank you, whereas the old me would have gotten angry and defensive. This time, I just told the other women and we laughed about it.

Anyway, it was an awesome feeling. My grandmother is a huge influence in my life. She is the strongest woman I know and always will know. It means a lot for her to be proud of me. We are going on a cruise in July (no husband or kids ) and I've been worrying about clothes. I don't want to buy a lot of stuff before then, but at the same time, I have to buy things a little at a time for financial reasons. Just can't go on a "spree." Anyway, my grandmother told me that the week before the cruise, she is going to give me her credit card to buy an entire week's worth of clothes for the cruise!!!!! And she only buys the best, so no Walmart clothes for once . I can't wait!!!

I hope you all had a great Easter!
One day at a time.

Congratulations on your success Amy and I know you will have a blast on the cruise.   It is easy to make good choices of food on the cruises because there is fish available at every meal if you want it.   Make sure to request your food with sauces on the side just like you do in a fine restaurant.   Have a blast.   I am jealous !!!

Hugs and blessings~~ Vivian

Amy, I had about the same experience you did, but the men in my family (my nephew-in-law and brother-in law (sister's husband) were both really proud and did say how great I looked and I too was embarrassed at the fuss but at the same time, enjoyed it a little lol. My sister kept saying, after we got all the food passed around, "Kim are you sure you have enough? Are you OK?" I said, I had plenty and I would feel much better if everyone would just go on with conversation and as long as nobody stared at me. I was proud I could stand up for myself(has not always been easy for me to do!)

Thanks everyone! Kim reminded me of something I wanted to post and forgot to earlier. I did feel like my mom was looking at every bite I ate and not really judging, but questioning the amount. Opposite of Kim, my mom said she couldn't believe I could eat so much! I had 2 eggs, a piece of toast, and 2 slices of turkey bacon. I found myself making excuses: my next fill is next week, I would usually have eaten grits, hash browns, and pancakes while finishing my son's cheeseburger and fries, etc. We even went to my grandmother's after lunch for dessert and I stopped at the store and bought a fresh fruit salad so I wouldn't be tempted by my favorite coconut cake. I guess my mom just worries that I'll gain it back, but how do you handle that situation?

Amy,

I get the same responses - even from Bariatric patients and/or "experts" (Doctors/Nutritionists).

I eat a larger amount then the average bariatric person, then again what is average. As anything else, each individual is different. Bottom line: I am losing weight, and I feel full.

If anyone ever questions, all you need to say is "(While I appreciate your concern) my Doctor states this portion is perfect for me". I always joke "well if it wasn't for my band, I'd be having 8 helpings.

Good luck
