Hi Melody,

I'm just a week ahead of you, I'm on puree foods now and then next week I go onto soft foods. So are you going onto soft foods and not puree foods? I've done chicken along with some diced tomatoes with green chili's and pretty much I'm just pureeing everything.
I know come Saturday, I just can't wait to go onto soft foods. To actaully to be able to chew on food again.

There are many bariatric cookbooks out there which you may want to look into.

There is also a website out there that many folks recommend,

http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/

OH also has a recipe section

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/recipe/

Hope this helps.

Good Luck on your Journey !!

I got to start pureed foods a weak early cuz I was not getting enough nourishment on liquids anymore. I have a "sample menu" and a list of pureed foods I can have. My question is this: Not all of the foods listed are on my sample menu. When, where can I start putting in like the puddings etc, when the "menu" says cream of wheat, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, tomato soup..sorry for SO many questions! But thanks for your patience with me and all the great advice! Keep it comin'!!!

Kim,

As I always suggest, call your Doctor/Nutritionist for better information .. but I would think the "sample menu" is just that - and you can substitute accordingly

For example, let’s say your food listing is:

Oatmeal/Cream of Wheat/Farina

Soft-cooked eggs/Egg beaters

Canned tuna/salmon packed in water

Soft-baked/broiled/stewed: chicken and/or fish

Low-fat deli meats

Cooked lentils; kidney beans, peas, legumes

And the sample Menu states:

Breakfast: Oatmeal

Lunch: Canned Tuna

Dinner: Stewed chicken.

With the listing above, you can switch things around

Breakfast: Egg beaters

Lunch: Low-fat deli meats

Dinner: Lentil soup.

Don’t worry too much. Just make sure you’re (A) eating sensibly (B) hitting protein numbers.

ADVICE WARNING: TALK TO THE DOCTOR/NUTRITIONIST BEFORE INCREASING /CHANGE YOUR INTAKE

In the beginning don’t be too concerned/worry about “calories, fats, sugars, carbs, etc". Make sure you are getting your grams of protein. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO WEIGHT LOSS. In the future you can worry about all those other things, but for now - WORRY ABOUT THE PROTEIN. Now don’t get me wrong - I don’t want you to eat a bag of chips, or whole cake or drink tons of ice cream shakes in order to get protein in. You need to use some common sense :) !!

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Thanks Tom! Yes I for got to say that they are also having me have 3 snacks a day of the high protein substitute/supplement. So I can have puddings and yogurt and stuff with my meals , too, then? No eggs yet. This is a learning process for me and I am glad that you all, on OH are here to help me. Thanks!

ADVICE WARNING: TALK TO THE DOCTOR/NUTRITIONIST BEFORE INCREASING /CHANGE YOUR INTAKE

Kim,

I am still a little confused what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a “what to eat/when to eat" guide, I would say eat every 3 – 4 hours.

This was the “eating regiment" I was on, and (basically) continue to use today.

Suggested meal time

4:00 - 6:00 a.m.           Breakfast

9:00 a.m.                     Protein “snack" (shake, pudding, etc)

12:00 p.m.                   Lunch

3:00 - 4:00 p.m.           Protein “snack" (shake, pudding, etc)

6:00 - 7:00 p.m.           Dinner

after 9:00 p.m.             Optional snack (fat-free/sugar free ice; fat-free/sugar free pudding; etc – or Protein snack if numbers are low)

Does this help/make sense?
