Hello

I went through something similar.  I was very frustrated because I wasn't losing weight with my band.  I got to the point where I started to cheat more and more.  What I did was try again following all of the rules.  I'm not sure where I got the motivation but I figure it was better than sitting around feeling sorry for myself.

Starting in October I changed the way I eat.  I became more strict.  I eat lots of lean protein and very low carbs.  I eat maybe 25-40 carbs a day.  If I do eat carbs...it's not from simple carbs.  I eat about 1200 calories a day.  I drink lots of water...in fact I almost never get any liquid calories.  I would rather have an apple than apple juice.  The most important change is exercise.  I started out at 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.  I now do 60 minutes a day, 6 days a week.  I also do weight training 6 days a week.  I have lost  almost 45 lbs since October.  This has renewed my motivation and I feel hopeful again.   It's a lot of work but the pounds keep coming off week after week.  Try renewing your commitment to the band and the rules.  I did and it work out really well for me.

Thank you for this post. I was looking through the forum as I have fallen off and gained 25 lbs and am feeling bad and have lost my way with the band and my commitment. I am going to make a new start and set out to eat more lean proteins..I have started with protein powder in the mornings but fall off by the afternoon. Renewing my commitment will hopefullly pull me through and your words of encouragement is just want I needed. Thank you again for this post.

I, of course didn't know your sister in law but I would bet one thing she would want for you is for you to get back on track. With a band you can always start over again. I find journaling my food helps the most. Get healthy for your sons and hopefully your niece they all need your guidance. Here's another reason to get back in the game, being over weight can contribute to breast cancer so don't put that on your plate too. I wish you all the best and strength to get back in the game!

I am in the same boat. See my posting on this site.

Ok here is the toughest love you will get .. and I gave it to myself … Yesterday is over and done with. There is nothing we can do about it. Tomorrow is NOW, and it’s time to get werself back on track.

First – remember this isn’t a diet plan; it’s a way of life. So slips, stumbles and falls will occur. What we do when this happens is truly important. We need to get ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get ourselves to continue down the road to success.

What we first need to do is ask ourselves “Where did I come from" .. then ask ourselves “Why did I do this operation" – basically the answer is because it’s a last resort.

We need to realize we are stronger than any craving or any food. It took strength to admit we have a problem we can’t control. It took strength to decide to have an operation. It took strength to do what was needed before and after the operation. It took strength to say “I need help" .. So we have the strength, now we need to call on it.

GET BACK TO THE BASICS !! I tell everyone that. Pretend today was day one of the operation and go back to a strict liquid diet. Do this for a few days (maybe a week), then go onto the next stage of soft food then finally regular food. What we are doing it is detoxing our body of the sugars and bad carbs. When we find ourselves hungry – eat .. but SENSIBLE foods. Make sure we also follow all the rules.

We need to go back and follow the rules that made we successful. We need to have the 64 ounces of NON-CARBONATE/DECAFFEINATED liquid. We need to have wer 60 to 80 grams of protein. We need to make sure we don’t drink 30 minutes before/after or during our meal.

What we need to remember is they put the band around our stomach, and not around our brain. We will need to use some self-control when it comes to food. If we are hungry we need to stop and ask ourselves if this real hunger or head hunger. Asking that alone will probably be an indication it’s head hunger, so we know what to do. Get busy doing something else. If that doesn’t work, EAT – but SOMETHING HEALTHY. Have some salad; vegetables, PROTEIN, etc.

We need to get to support groups. Look on line to find ones around we. We need to discuss this with our Doctor. That’s why he’s there. If we feel we’re not getting the support from him, then we need to go to another Doctor. Remember we are the client/consumer. If we’re paying for a service, we want the best service for that money. If not, move on. We are worth THE BEST because WE ARE THE BEST !!

We also need to speak to a Nutritionist. Many insurance companies allow we to see one X amount of times per year. Contact our insurance company. Go and speak to the person who did our psych exam, or see someone new. Again, insurance should be able to cover it. Maybe not the person we originally saw, but someone in our plan.

REMEMBER what it took to make we successful. WE CAN DO IT !! And know I am here if we need me.

Now – get off our a55 – stop making excuses – and (sorry Nike) JUST DO IT !!

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom
