Having an alcoholic drink?????
Just a question,
Does anyone know if it is okay to have alcoholic drinks?????
I have a few weddings coming up and I would love to have my first drink since surgery.
I am not really a drinker anyway but I was wondering like a glass of wine or a mixed drink???? How it would effect me
Any info would help
Thanks
Pam

Before I share my story I do want to state that my doctor said I should wait a full year before drinking alcohol. That said...
I had surgery on 3/4/10 and was the matron of honor at my sister's wedding on 6/11/10. I had one cranberry and vodka and sipped on it for about a half hour while I ate some hor d'oevres (sp?). I had no problems. I made sure it wasn't carbonated and I sipped on it with food and I was fine. That has been my only experience with alcohol post-op. That said, I am going to Vegas tomorrow with my sisters and Mom and Dad to celebrate my Mom's 50th birthday. I imagine I will have a few drinks this long weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
Best of luck,
Heather

Hi Pam,
I have a few ****tails here and there with no issues. I do make sure they are not carbonated and that I have some food in me before I do drink. I try to plan the calories into my daily count. Have fun at the weddings!

My mantra: Each day is an new opportunity to be happier, healthier and better than the day before. I will live each day with enthusiam and be thankful for the many blessings that surround me. I will do my best to pay it forward whenever possible.
Pam,
My advice: TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR !! He's the only one who will really know if you should or shouldn't at this stage.
Plus, how well do you know you? Will having one drink lead to another and another, then to "well since I've been bad with drinking this piece of food isn't going to matter .. and then this piece ... and this piece .. etc.
While sometime it's not the drink which is the problem, but the TRIGGER it may cause.
Good Luck on your Journey !!

I rarely have ****tails but when I do, I generally do vodka since its lower in sugars and I order a vodka and water in a tall glass then I add a packet of Crystal Light and stir, this avoids all the sugars from fruit juices such as cranberryand or lemonade. I add a lime and its very tasty! I limit myself by only taking a few crystal light packets with me, when they are done, so am I
