Anyone get hiccups after/during eating???

Hello!  I am 2 weeks, 3 days post-op.  I started eating soft foods this week.  I was wondering why I get the hiccups after/during my meals?  Is it because I am full already or because I ate too fast?  It seems I get them a lot.  It doesn't seem like I'm full yet...

Hi Anita,  I'm 2 wks and 1 day post-up and I have the same problem.  Sometimes they are deep and hurt, don't know why but I think it's something with swallowing air when we eat.  How are you doing with weight lose?  My weight is coming off slow.  My surgery weight was 231 and I'm 226 as of this morning.  I'm sick of protein drinks and can't wait until my new protein stuff comes that I ordered.  I'd love to keep in touch since we had our surgery about the same time.  Take care, Debbie

Hi Debbie,  Yes, I find that those air swallows are deep and hurt too; then I get the hiccups.  That's really strange about the "soft stops" I never heard of that.  I figured my body was saying something to me... I guess I better listen a bit more.  As far as my weight - I been doing great with activity ever since surgery; walking 20-30 minutes each day and this week I made it to the gym twice... I really had to push myself to go, and I hope I can continue on Tues./Thurs., but I find my weight is at a standstill right now.  It's very frustrating.  I have to tell myself to stop checking the darn scale!  As long as I'm doing the right things, it has to go downward!  I'm exactly with you - about 5 lbs. since surgery date.  I would like to keep in touch too... please approve my friend request?

Ladies these are your soft stops telling you it's time to quit eating. Some folks get a runny nose others burp there are several funny things that say stop now.

That's so funny... I never heard of that.   I will have to pay more attention while I'm eating.  How do you know when to stop before it happens though?  Is it something you just learn over time?

This is quite common, and may be your body telling you "you're full".

Some folks get hiccups. Some folk's nose runs. I get a double-burp/hiccup as my sign I am done.

Test to see if this is indeed your sign. When you get it - stop eating. Wait an additional 15-20 minutes. If you feel you're full (not stuffed) - then you know. If you don't, then it may be you're eating too fast and getting a lot of air.

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

Okay, it hasn't been happening as much lately.  I am going to test it next time to see if it's "my sign".  That's good to know... thanks everyone!

I too hicup when I am full and need to stop or have been eating too fast. The best way to control that is to always mesure your food until you can eye ball it. I though have noticed lots of hicups and burps when I first got my band I think the body is getting used to having the band in it.
Good luck.
