Sorry for long read, i just wanted to make sure the situation was detailed enough.
Hello all! I was banded on 12/3/2009 with a 11cc realize band. I was put on a liquid diet for 6 weeks... 1 week of clear, 2 weeks of full, 3 weeks of mushies. Anyways I was very good with my instructions with the post-op recovery. When i started eating solids i had some symptoms that seamed unusual. First off, i did not feel restriction in the sense of feeling full even after eating a full chicken breast (probably 5-6 ounces) although i would not eat more because i knew i should not be able to eat that much. However, i would occasionally have painful incidents in which i would take a small bite (sometimes the first bite) and it would feel like something was stuck and then it would stop after like 2-3 minutes without ever coming up. For the first almost 4 months and first 4 fills (i think) these symptoms were present even though i feel like i was very good with taking small bites and chewing well.. The PA (who did all but the first 2 fills) did not understand why i was feeling the way i felt. I was constantly worried that i did something wrong or broke, tore, stretched something. Now after having my 5th fill 2 weeks ago from today (at 10 cc currently), things are much different. I ate solids (fish) about 36 hours after my fill and i felt full after only 3-4 ounces with nothing getting stuck during that meal. The next day however, i had one very thin slice of deli turkey and about a minute after eating it i fell some different from what i have felt ever. It was not necessarily painful like before my 5th fill; however, it was uncomfortable (it almost felt like i had a huge burp but would not come out except for tiny little burps every 30 seconds. This continued for like 5-10 minutes until i eventually threw up. This was the first time i had vomited since before surgery. In the last 2 weeks i have had an unusual pattern. One day i would eat chicken and would experience the small burps and then eventually vomit.  Then i would eat chicken another day and it would feel fine. Eggs got come up once. I had very tender steak one night and it felt fine, then last night i had the same tender steak and it eventually came up. I would Say in the last 2 weeks i have vomited about 10 times. I have no idea what is going on and uncertainty make me worry like crazy! Can anyone relate to my situation? thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Hi there,

I am at 9cc in my 11cc band and I have to say that this band is very fickle.  While I don't throw up often (only twice) I am like you where one day I can eat something and the next day I can't.  Chicken is definately one of those foods for me no matter how small the bites are.  Sliced deli meat is always a problem for me.

If I have had too much to eat, I will have small burps or hiccups.  I know immediately if something is stuck as I get terrible chest pressure and a weird kind of headache.  Most of the time, if I get up and walk around and be patient it will pass through, although sometimes it does take 10 to 15 minutes.  I try to be very careful.

Vomiting 10 times in 2 weeks seems to be alot.  Maybe if you go on liquids for a couple of days it might help.  You may have some swelling or irritation going on from all the vomiting and a couple days of rest from solid food may help.  (Just a thought).  If that didn't work I would talk to your Dr.

Good luck to you and please let us know how you are doing.
Leslie

I agree...the band is fickle.  It might be the same kind of stake but you chewed just a little more the time before...or it was just cooked a little differently, maybe juicer.  I know I can't eat things reheated in the microwave without adding a ton of water...even that i**** or miss.  My nut said chicken and eggs are the top things that get stuck.  Vomiting 10 times in 2 weeks...I think this is just a learning experience with the food you are eating.  Give it some more time and keeping a journal will help with remembering what foods effect you this way.  Good luck!

I went through that a few weeks ago..I could barely keep anything down for 3-4 days. EVERYTHING was getting stuck. Now, a few weeks later, it's much better. Stuff still gets stuck, but not like before. I went to the Dr. this past Monday and told him about it, and he said he didn't want to take any out!!! He said the tightness could have been from irritation bc it was a week after the previous fill. I had my period, and I've heard that some people's bands are tighter with their period. (oops, I didn't even check to see if you are male or female lol) Good luck
