Pureed yet?
I am 9 days post-op.
My doctor says I can switch to pureed foods on day 14. I am prepared to wait 5 more days, but what I want to know is did any of you switch to pureed a little early.? The reason I ask is because I am starving! The liquids are going right through me. I have a protein shake and I am hungry (not head hungry) 45 minutes later. Is that normal? Do you think it would hurt to switch over a little early?

I would follow my doc's orders exactly. I had the same problem so what some people recommended to me was to make your protein shakes with milk. For example if you are having a chocolate shake, mix it wil one cup of milk and add 1 Tbs. of peanut butter and mix it up good. That will give you more protein and a little bit more in your tummy to help you feel full longer. Also, for me, liquids included puddings, jello, cream of wheat with artificial sweetener, creamy soups such as tomato or potatoe (just make sure to blend up the potatoe soup), and popsicles.
Hope this helps. This part is probably the hardest, but don't worry, pureeds will be here before you know it and you will LOVE it once it's here.

I agree with Lillie but there are some things you can try (at least I did and my doc said it was okay):
I took 10 oz. of skim milk (protein), 1 scoop of chocolate UNJURY, 2 tbsp. of peanut butter, 1/2 tbsp. of cocoa powder and 1/2 of a small banana. I blended it with crushed ice in a blender and it was to DIE for!! The additional protein helped and it was the taste of a hotfudge sundae to me!! It is STILL one of my favorite snacks!!
Good luck....I had some strained soups too .....

Hey babe! Putting the protein powders in milk/lactaid was what SAVED ME from going nuts and hungry before moving to pureeds...it keeps you fuller longer. Also try adding benefiber--it will also help you feel fuller longer on the liquids.
Are you getting enough protein? I was told to aim for 92g/day...if I get at least 60g I feel pretty satiated and OK...
Good luck, babe! and LOOK! You are already 2 days closer!

Lyarnall,
Your Doctor knows best and has given you instructions to keep you successful. Follow what their directions.
Now could you switch over a little early - sure. Could nothing happen - yes and no. Sure, you may "advance" quicker than instructed and have no adverse affect - HOWEVER by doing this you're on a slippery slope. If you don't following the directions right away what's going to happen weeks/months/years from now?
Through out this journey you're going to meet temptation. How you deal with it is what's going to make you successful or not. Do I mean you'll be 100% correct all the time, NO. But if you're 94% correct, you'll be very successful. Not following the rules in the beginning could set you up for future setbacks.
So ask yourself .. IS IT WORTH IT???

Each surgeon is different. For all banders at my clinic, you are on each stage for 1 wk. By now you would be on puree. However, your doctor has you on a schedule that they feel is best for you and the healing of your band area. It would NOT recommend advancing quicker than they suggest. However, you may ask them why their rule is 2 wks and not one. Maybe they are using outdated standards.
