ok, so i'm 2 mos post op, just had 1 fill, and I have no restriction....none.  Doc put in first fill of 4 cc  a week ago.  i have no trouble consuming anything.  i can eat as much as i did prior to having the band in place....is this normal????  I'm so discouraged!  Haven't lost any weight post op.  Next fill is not scheduled until end of May...I paid for this surgery out of pocket and feel like I have made a horrible mistake....

It's called "Bandster's Hell".  It  may take a couple fills to get to your sweet spot...until then, you're going to have to really make the effort to weigh, measure and make good choices.  I had little to no restriction after my first fill too.  I just got my 2cd fill last week (now have 7.5 cc) and I have my fingers crossed that this will be it.  Does your doctor do your fills under fluroscope?  That seems to be s the most accurate way of seeing how much restriction each fill is providing.

Hang in there and don't get discouraged!

With some people it takes a few fills before you can feel restriction. And sometimes a fill doesn't kick in until days later. I have had 3 fills and I don't feel any restriction until almost 10 days later. It almost feels as though it comes and then it goes at times. Go figure--- I'm 9 months out and still I can't figure out my band. You may want to contact your Dr. and tell him what is going on with you. Everyone gets discouraged at times on this weight loss journey -- especially when we don't see the results fast enough. Just keep on sticking to the band rules and follow your Dr. and Nut. individual plan for you.

Leigh123 - I'm totally with you.   I paid for my surgery also and while I did very well initially I have also stalled.   I had one fill and the doc put in 6cc and I'm not feeling any restriction.   To top it off my work is very stressful right now and I'm a stress eater.   I need some help in the worse way.   I've actually gained 3 pounds back.

I've been doing exercise at home but called today to find a Gym - I'm hoping that taking my exercise up to the next notch will help some.  I've read on here its all about finding your "sweet spot" with the tool - I'm hoping to just hang on as best I can until I can get my next fill.

Good Luck.  Let me know you you are doing and I'll do the same.  Its nice to know there are many people on the same journey.

I would not wait until May to go back...there is no reason to wait.  The band will give you restriction, food to me has no meaning I can take it or leave it.  I've had my share of trouble with restriction and I finally now know I have it.  It is truly a wonderful thing to no longer be a slave to food.  I feel that I have won the battle and I'm winning the war.  Don't get discouraged...go back to the doctor this week.  You will do great.

 hi Leigh,

you didn't lose any weight even on the liquid diets post-op? Have you had your thyroid checked and been tested for diabetes? When my thyroid if out of whack I gain weight, even if I am only taking in a couple hundred calories....maybe think about getting an endocrinologist if you don't have one already.

Good luck!!

Candace, i was only on liquids a few days after surgery...and there was never any problems or restrictions post op.  yes my thyroid has been checked and i have also been checked for diabetes...my dr. will only put in 1 cc of saline on my next visit...he says that's the way he likes to do it...i only fear that since i feel 0 restriction now, another cc will still not be enough, and there is no going back between 6 week visits...ugh!

I'm at about two and a half months post op and still have no restriction despite two fills (first was 4.5 cc and second was 0.4 cc).  My loss is very slow (and to top it off, I'm in the middle of a stall!).  At the appointment when I received the second fill I talked to the dietician (who is banded) about when I could realistically expect to feel some restriction.  She told me about six months out - I was really surprised by that.  I didn't have the courage to ask when I could expect to hit my "sweet spot"!  I guess that it happens when it happens, but I wish the doc would be a little more aggressive...  Good luck!!
