Just had my second fill

And I still have no problem at all swallowing anything. HUGE pills, broccoli, nuts, whatever. Seems to be no limit. I do feel less hungry, and I'm managing to stick to around 1200 cal a day (usually 1-2 hours of exercise as well). Next fill won't even be considered for six weeks.

They're happy with the amount of weight I'm losing and so am I, around a pound or two a week, but I can't help feeling like the band should be helping me out a little more. Isn't there SOMETHING I should not be able to scarf down?

I had my second fill last week.  I only got 1cc by choice, doc wanted to give me 2cc.  I try to look at it this way.  I want to take it slow, sure who wouldn't want the weight to just fall off fast, but in reality I have to learn how to eat properly.  If down the road my band isn't able to stay in me I sure hope I learned how to eat properly without restriction.  Right now I kinda wish I had gotten more of a fill but I am ok with it.  I think I will only do 1cc next time too (in 4 more weeks).  It is frustrating and would be cool to have super cool restriction but I am okay at the moment and like that I have some say in my eating not just leaving it all up to the band.  I have no problem with filling the thing up as far as it needs to go but I, personally, just want to take it slow.

Fills are very different for everyone. The first thing to remember is how the fills are done. Some doctors do it under fluoroscope (x-ray and barium drink) which gives an accurate way of knowing how restricted someone is, while most do it “blindly" (poke and hope) and it will take a few fills until you feel the restriction.

If under x-ray the Doctor can “see" exactly how ‘tight’ the band is, compared of a Doctor who puts in .5 cc in at a time. Sometimes it takes fewer visits to get to the “sweet" spot with fluoroscope then with blind

If possible, ask for fluoroscope fill. While it may be a little more expensive, in the long run you will have to go less times to get the correct restrictions.

Don't give up hope or get fustrated - you'll be there soon. And if/when you're "too tight" you'll wish you never had the fill ;D !!
Good Luck on your Journey !!

“Nothing I will ever eat will give me the feeling I get as when I lose weight”  The views expressed are based on my own experiences - and should NOT BE FOLLOWED IN LIEU OF DOCTOR’S ADVICE/INSTRUCTIONS. Only your Doctor knows your condition, and make sure you talk to them before making any changes to your diet

6 weeks seams a long time to wait.  My doctor's office wants me to come back in a week if I don't have enough restriction.  I'm not happy with doctors that don't listen to you.  I would go back sooner.  How much do you have in your band now?  Everyone is different with what kinds of food they can tolerate.  For me meats are a problem...they need to be ground.  Nuts are fine but chewed well.  There are a lot of things that I find get stuck.  I can't eat leftovers warmed up in the microwave...I guess they become chewy!?!?!  It is a wonderful thing not being a slave to hunger!!  Go back to the doctor and if he/she will not listen find a new one!

I can eat literally ANYTHING. I think I could swallow a whole chicken. Six weeks is their policy - I presume because for a certain amount of time you are covered for fills but after that they cost $150 or something. The nurse that does them reminds me of that donkey from Shrek...she is really loud and talks continuously and doesn't let me get a word in. When I frown because I can't talk, she says I want to lose weight too fast. Which is probably also true. But, the hunger isn't bad. And, in a few months I will be moving back to Canada, where the health care is *cough* different so I will have a different doctor. And Tom, as usual, you're right, I'll probably wish I never had one! :D

My doctor makes me wait 6 weeks in between fills too.  I have had 7 fills and I have restriction now and am not hungry that often.  I will probably need a little bit more.  I have a friend and she had perfect restriction after her second fill.  Some people are lucky enough to get restriction right away.  While others of us have to wait and wait.

I do notice that I am less hungry, at least. I met one guy whose first fill was 1 cc, second was .25 cc, and that was it - he lost over a hundred lbs. Like you say, all different. Thanks for the support!
