2 questions... PCOS and pills getting stuck

I had band surgery in Feb 2009 and still haven't been losing any weight. I haven't had any pop, bread, etc since then. I'm very cautious about what I eat and I try really hard. I've even tried those weight loss vitamin shots that everyone in my area are losing weight on. I know people that lost 60 pounds in just 2 months on them and it's all natural. My lap band Dr even told me to go for it that there was no harm but even with those I only lost 13 pounds and I was taking double of what everyone else was taking. I finally was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and was told without medication that it would be totally impossible to lose weight and I'm starting to believe that.

I started my Metformin this morning and I think the pill has gotten stuck before it passed through my band. Will this cause the pill to disolve before it hits my stomach? If that happens, then wont that effect the way the pill is suppose to work?

Thanks for your time you took to read my post and have a wonderful day!

Hi :)
I have PCOS too, and have been on Met for several years up until 10 days before my surgery.   I saw a metabolic specialist last week who advised it will be difficult for me to be successful without the Met, and another medication to enhance it's effects.  I am now taking liquid Metformin in a cherry flavor called "Riomet".  Crushed Met pills are *nasty", even when you try to hide in in applesauce.

Good luck :)

Oh thank you so very much for letting me know about the liquid Metformin. I will tell my Dr about that first thing Monday morning. I think that would work better for me.

Thanks again,
Staci

Hang in there.  I have PCOS - I don't take any medication and I have lost 52 pounds in a year.  It has been a slower pace then some, but I am totally happy about it!!!  It averaged out to be  1 pound a week, and that is all that is promised anyway for the "average" person....

Just be patient, it takes time and until you get good restriction it will be hard to lose.

That's wonderful! I have tried so so hard and there is no way I could stand another fill right now. I can barely eat the way it is or I throw it up. I can't hold hardly anything so I eat mostly soup and soft things. I think I have really good restriction so far just going to hang in there and see what happens.

That's really great that you already have restriction.  It took me about 5 months or so to get good restriction.

I know how you are feeling, that is how I feel when I get fills.  I used to feel that way for a few weeks after a fill, but this last fill has lasted that way for a couple of months and still going strong.

I'm not complaining.  I make sure to get in my protein which helps curb my appetite too.  It is more of my head thinking I need to eat then my stomach!  A  year later and my mind is still set in it's old ways!  But, I am getting better and teaching it's new way of life!!

The past month or so has been AWESOME...clothes in my closet are too big and I can find cute clothes to wear now...yippeee....

So, If I can do it, you can too...everything you read on these boards about it eventually happening is true so just take it a day at a time and before you know it it will be Fall and you will be down some lbs!!
