Did anyone gain after banding???
Today is Thursday and I got my Realize band on Tuesday so I'm still very early in the process. The thing I find weird is that I actually weigh more now than before I entered the OR. Could that be due to swelling? My surgeon had to repair a hiatal hernia the size of Rhode Island before he put the band on and he told me there was a lot of swelling due to that repair so I needed to be very careful because I have more restriction than is usual before my first fill. I've been having no nausea and have been staying on top of my hydration. I have more discomfort from my diaphragm than from the banding but the pain med takes care of that. Everything is going great except I weigh almost 5 pounds more now than the morning of the surgery.
Anyone else have a similar experience?

Rich,
Two bits of advice (1) Don't worry about it. As long as you follow the rules you'll be ok (2) Don't go on the scale until your first visit. The reason I say that is because you'll drive yourself crazy. Your weight can fluctuate greatly in a day – you’ll be lighter in the morning than in the evening. You can step off the scale and go back on the scale, and there could be different readings. And as you know each scale is different. Point in fact, at my job we have an infirmary and it contains 6 “doctor" scales. I weigh differently on each one – in fact there is a 7 pound difference between two of them.
As I said, follow the rule and you’ll be fine.
Good Luck on your Journey !!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. There's nothing like the "experience, strength and hope" of someone who has gone through the same things I'm now going through to ease my mind. I figured it was, if not normal, at least not abnormal. I was just so thrilled by the weight I lost on the lo-carb and then clear liquid pre-op diets that I wanted it to continue. Weight loss that quick isn't healthy, though, and is one of the reasons I chose banding over a bypass.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
