I had my surgery two weeks ago and my hair is already very dry - so great question.  Looking forward to the answers.

Are you getting your 60 to 80 grams of protein in every day?  I was told  by the NUT at my surgeons office that hair loss is a result of not enough protein after surgery.

My mantra:  Each day is an new opportunity to be happier, healthier and better than the day before.  I will live each day with enthusiam and be thankful for the many blessings that surround me. I will do my best to pay it forward whenever possible

I had my surgery 6 months ago and the hair loss was pretty bad. My dr. said he didn't know why...maybe the stress of surgery, it was NOT lack of protein, bc I was eating just as much as before the surgery and during the liquid pre op, i didnt lose any hair, it was after. Research it online.

You will read everything under the sun about hair loss and WLS. My conclusion is that you cannot do a darn thing about it. I get plenty of protein in and took my vitamins and it still happened. It usually lasts for a short period of time (couple months), but it does stop. No one seems to have the answer so my best advice is to ride it out.

After much research & talking to several doctors, I have come up with 3 items that may cause it.

1) Not getting enough protein. Your body needs to adjust to the way that it is getting it and processing it.

2) Anesthesia from the surgery, It takes a lot of time to completely leave the body.

3) Exposure to the floroscope from your fills.

Or just a combination of all three. I have been told many times that it will stop & should grown back in.

Many people have hair loss following surgery. Any kind of Surgery. Ive been told by medical folks that it has something to do with the anesthesia. It usually happens about 3 months post surgery and will last about 6 weeks. It doesn't hurt to get as much protien as you can, and it will help the new hair growth for sure. I ho[pe this helps

I talked to my nutritionist about this and she said two things:
1)  Dry hair right after surgery is probably from the anesthesia
2)  She told me to make sure I was taking Biotin - vitamen for hair and nails and get my protiens in as both will lessen the hair loss effects.
