Help - bowel movements

I had my surgery on Friday, Jan 15th.   Urine is just fine, but I haven't had a bowel movement since then.    Should I be worried?   My post op instructions said to use Citrucel - but I'm just not sure what is normal on an all liquid diet.

It's normal.  I didn't have one for almost a full week after surgery and called the doctor.  I still don't have them that often. I'm lucky if I go twice a week.  I used Benefiber in my protein shakes and I'm going to try something else after this huge bottle I bought is gone.

Don't forget, you're not "eating" normally especially "solid" foods - so there isn't much to expel.

But once it happens - watch out. .. FOREWARNING !! Take my advice .. Keep an extra pair of undergarments in your vehicle .. (being polite) What you may think might be a gas may turn out to be either a liquid or solid.
Good Luck on your Journey !!

you may also try Milk of Magnesia...it is what my doctor told me to take.  It was 3 days after my surgery before I was able to go.

Don't wait too long to take something to get things moving.  It was all most a week for me.  When I did it was nothing out of the ordinary, but a lot of banded people are constipated when you get to normal foods.  Don't wait to see if it's gonna pass, take something.  There is colace, miralax, metamucil...anything you want.  Have some on hand though.

Well since you asked I will reply honestly :)

I had diarrhea starting about 4 days out and really I attribute it to all the liquids and liquid only diet.  At 1.5 weeks out I had my first bowel movement.  Solid but very small.  Still not eating much so I wasn't worried.  From then on I had one about every 4 days.  I started taking colace (love that stuff, worked wonders during pregnancy) and was going every other day.  Now at almost a month out I will have a bowel movement every other day naturally.  If I go more than two days I start colace but haven't needed to yet.  I think you are fine at this point.  But if you start feeling "backed up" you may want to try colace or milk of mag.
