Hello!  My name is Kati and I had my surgery on Thurs Dec10th.  I came home yesterday and I feel like someone has ran over my abdomen with a car...LOL..i bought several different kinds of shake mixes and the flavors they gave me in the hospital made me sick...yuck!  But I am trying different kinds and hopefully will find a favorite soon!  I haven't eaten since Wednesday night and I am hungry, but i am actually getting satisfied just from the liquids right now.  I mean when i think about certain food I want to eat them, but I guess I have some restriction just from my dr putting the band on.  I am excited, yet nervous, but I know this is something I need to do.  I plan to go back to work Monday, but if I am still this sore, then I'm not sure.  I am a 3rd grade teacher with 24 students, so I would need to be on my toes so to speak.  Any suggestions about getting through the first few days and weeks?? I found this site and it seems like a great deal of support is available...thanks!!

I just got banded on Tuesday, and overall I think I feel good. I am waiting until Tuesday to go back to work. I work at Childrens Hospital and tend to be very busy. If you have any questions or would just like to talk let me know.......

Hi Kati.  I was just banded on Tuesday.  I'm sorry to hear about your pain.  I can't say that I have experienced that.  But last night I was soooooooooo hungry I was ready to chew my arm off.  I think it was more emotional than physical but it was awful.  As far as the shakes go, I purchased some from www.bariatricadvantage.com.  I have tried the vanilla, chocolate and banana so far and they are good.  Vanilla is my favorite though.  I bought both the single packets and the ones in the bottle that you add water to and then shake.  I also bought GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein unflavored so I could add it to things.  The Isopure drinks are helpful also but they don't fill you up as much but they have a ton of protein.

Let me know how you're doing.

I hate the protien shakes, but was able to handle the Unjury Chocolate mixed with coffee.  If you try the coffee thing, make sure it cools a bit or the protien will get all gross.  I used a candy thermometer to take the temp in mine before I mixed it.

thanks for the support and advice!! I have been able to keep down the flavored protein waters from GNC that have 30 grams per bottle in them.  They don't keep me full, but at least I am gettting the protein and the hydration....Also, I am still having those gas pains in my shoulder and my chest...ahhh it's like I have to burp and it's all trapped!! I will be glad once that passes too!

Congrats! I just got banded on December 1 so I'm only a few weeks in front of you. I am just about to end the all shake phase and I can't wait. I hate the shakes! The only one I can tolerate is matrix perfectly chocolate. I use 8 ounces of milk and a half a scoop and it's tolerable. I tried a million others and couldn't get any of them to go down. Good luck

Hi, congrats on the surgery and welcome to the losers bench! I definitely know how you feel with the pain..I was really sore for a few weeks after surgery to the point to where I couldn't really sit up for a long period of time. I hate protein..I had to force myself to drink it after surgery. If you have issues where you are starving to death..which most people do..I would definitely recommend eating sugar free pudding..it is very filling..the only advice I can give is follow the rules that your surgeon/nut has given you as best you can and try to move around.. I hope this helps!

I was one of the lucky ones with very minimal post surgery pain...except the gas...that was awful!  What I can say is that we all get through it!  However, having people to talk to and run things by is definitely the BEST!  Good luck in your journey.

I hope your feeling a little better.  Each new day will bring some relief.  How did you make out today?

Hang in there, your head and band might fight a little the first few weeks till they start to bond.  LOL  I would want to eat, but couldn't and it was frustrating, but you figure it out and start feeling better, then start losing and it's a all good.

Hang in there though!!!  You'll be feeling much better in no time.

Thanks everyone!! I am still sore, but I talked to my doctor and he told me to take motrin and that is helping.  Tomorrow will be 1 week since my surgery and I'm doing very well except for the soreness and the hate of the protein!  I even went back to work on Monday.  Today I feel it catching up with me though.  I have been giving my kids alot of busy work so I can rest (well sortof)...you can't really rest with 24, 3rd graders....LOL  I go on Monday for my post op appt.  I am waiting to EAT SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!  Today has been one week since I have had FOOD!!!! this liquid crap has gotten OLD!!   You are all so inspiring, and I hope to step on that scale and to have lost some weight next Monday!!!!!!!! If not I will really be depressed...especially since I am following this liquid diet!!
