liquid diet question

I just had a question on my liquid diet. I am having my surgery  on Dec 8, I start my diet this Sunday which is a little over 2 weeks.  After the surgery I am on the liquid diet for 3 more weeks. I will be clear liquid for the first couple days after surgery and then full liquids up until the 21st day after surgery. This is about 5 weeks of liquid diet. Has anyone else having the band been on a liquid diet for this long? I plan on following it because I want the surgery to be as successful as possible, it just seems longer than most people I have known who have had any of the bariactric surgeries.

I had 2 weeks of semi liquid and liquid (oatmeal, cr of wheat, Carn Ins. Bkfst, applesauce, cottage cheese, etc.)  clear liquids 1 day pre-op and clear liquids for  a week after and now on mushies.  Good luck.  Make sure you get your protein and water in.  I had headaches for 2 days until I got used to it.

Thanks, I haven't completely quit drinking caffeine yet and have a feeling I will get headaches from that. I think getting used to the protein shakes will be a biggie too.

I had to do liquids 4 days pre-op.  Post op it was clear liquids 3 days and then full liquids till the 14th day, then 2 weeks mushies, 2 weeks soft.  I think, i can't remember exactly, but it was something like that.

It does get easier after the first two days, just push the protein, they say that for a reason.  I found it the hardest about one to two weeks post op.  It started to just wear me down, but before you know it, it is OVER and when you get to soft foods it's like you hit the jackpot.  LOL

You can do it though.  I was and am a rule follower too (at least when it comes to this band HA), so I know you'll do just fine.

Keep us posted and we'll be here to cheer you on!

Thank you! I'm starting to get pretty excited. I figure if I can find diff things to mix with the protein shakes to give them a dif flavor it will help. I had looked at your profile a couple days ago you are doing great! I hope I am able to do as well.

Thanks Melanie!!  It's hard sometimes, but once you get a routine it just starts going ya know.  You'll do just fine.  I know when I started (and even now still) I worry about failing or what if this happens etc.  I am to the point where I can't control all that right now, but I've made big healthy changes for myself, for my family (no more bad bad snacks kiddos...and they don't even miss it :D ) and that is what I can control.  It really feels good.  You'll figure out your routine and what works too.

I use Unjury shakes and while they may be comparable to others, they do have a chicken soup flavored protein shake that might be good to have post surgery.  It was VERY hard for me to drink at all after surgery, so getting in protein shake and clear liquids was tough, so having them combined helped.  They sell packets if you would want to sample before getting a tub.  I do the chocolate or the Strawberry Sorbet one in the morning now on my way to work.  There is so many out there it's kind of overwhelming.  So, I don't have experience with many like some people do, but I found one and liked and have just stuck with it for now.  :D   Before you know it this will all be a distant memory!  :D
