2 Cups of Salad

Should I be able to eat two cups of salad?  My husband made me a salad for lunch today and even wrote down everything he put in it and how much.  I was just logging my foods online and saw it was 2 cups and I was shocked.  It didn't look like two cups.  My friend said that what is 2 cups in a bowl isn't 2 cups after it's chewed and swallowed.

Anyway, I was a little shocked and concerned cause I didn't have a problem with it at all.  Anyone who's been on normal foods able to do the same?

Thanks guys and gals!!!

I can eat that amount of salad.  Lettuce is bulky and when chewed is rather mushy so I think that is why we can eat that much.

Hi Boo,

I'm not sure really how much salad you should be eating.  I was told one cup should be it.  Whlie I agree that salad is full of healthy veggies, one cup is one cup and two cups are two cups.  We measure before we eat not after...  don't u think??

Good Luck and take care...

I asked DH later and he said he just layed it in the cup and didn't smoo**** in so he said it was a "light" 2 cups.  I reminded him that I haven't eaten 2 cups of anything and he said he put one cup in and it looked like nothing.  LOL  So, he was trying and it was still healhty, just worried me later when I saw it was 2 cups.

I do agree the measuring and weighing should be done before eating it.

Thanks!!!

I wonder if ounces would be a more accurate measure for something as "un-dense" as salad (what is the opposit of dense?)

You know what, you are probably right and obvious.  LOL  Scooping a cup of salad is probably not very accurate.  That is what he said he did, he scopped it an took some leaves off the top.  LOL  Plus, he got me a really cool digital scale as my "surgery gift" and I love using it.  I'll have to try it next time we do salads.  I haven't really done salad again since surgery so this was my first real experience.   Thanks for the tip!

Oh, and the opposite would be sparse per google.  I like your "un-dense" better.  HA HA  :)  I would have said loose.

I'm looking forward to having salad again... I was just banded two weeks ago today.

BTW, how sweet of him to make you a salad!

Boo,

As always I would suggest asking your Doctor or Nutritionists if it's ok.

With that said IMHO - 2 cups of salad isn't bad, as long as you ate your protein first. PROTEIN is the KEY to losing weight. If you ate your allotted protein, then 2 cups of salad should be ok. Also, the calories are very light in salad - so you should be ok. HOWEVER, it's what you PUT on the salad which is also important. 2 cups of salad with "no dressing" is different then 2 cups of salad with 2 cups of "Dr. High Fat's Extremely Creamy Calorie Enriched Salad Dressing". Something it's not only WHAT we eat, but what we eat WITH IT.
Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

It did have protein, 2 ounces of chicken breast and 1/4 cup of cheese.  :)  It was good.  Also, 1 tablespoon of light ranch, but normally I would have had more.  So, it was a healthy salad.  I was more concerned of the amount then the calories.  I was just surprised to see 2 cups of salad, but it wasn't very dense at all, so it was probably less.

The protein has been one thing that's been easy for me.  I haven't had a day yet that I've been under 70 grams.  Wi**** was all that easy.  :)

Ive been eating alot of salad lately too. We have a salad bar at work and Ive been eating that for lunch. It definately looks like alot more than Im used to. I like to chop mine up alot and make sure everthing is mixed together well. I notice after Im done chopping and mixing, the volume is almost half...then you figure you are chewing it so that probablly takes it down another 75% or so. Ive started losing again, so Its working rfor me...plus its nice to actually EAT somthing instead of having a couple bites. I add chopped eggs (you could use egg whites if youre counting calories, Im only counting carbs at this point) crumbled bacon and a little shredded cheese for protein.

Im not sure about how exactly you measure salad, but if youre losing I say stick with it.
