Dizziness after adjustment????

I am six months out from Realize Band surgery. I went August 4th for an adjustment. Dr. put 2cc's for a total of 6cc's. I felt fine before the adjustment but just didn't have any restriction at all. The day after the adjustment I had to stay home and in bed all day because I was dizzy.

Over then next 1 1/2 months I was ok except when I would lie down, change positions while lying down or stand up after lying down. If I did any of the 3 I would get really dizzy and several times I actually fell down cause I couldn't keep my equalibrium.

Went to the ER almost 2 weeks ago cause I just couldn't take it anymore. They did blood tests and checked blood pressure while lying, sitting and standing. Everything came back normal. So I went back to my surgeon to get his opinion about what is happening. He doesn't think the adjustment and dizziness are related, but just to be on the safe side he took the 2cc's back out of my band.

So now I'm back to 4cc's like before the dizziness started. He said that if removing the 2cc's that I got at the last adjustment doesn't "cure" the dizziness then I should see a neurologist. But if it does "cure" the dizziness then I can't have any more adjustments and may have to have my band removed eventually.

Now I'm really scared because I woke up this morning (the day after removal) and NO DIZZINESS!!! Someone please help and tell me that you went through this too. I was really really wanting it to be like an inner ear infection or something, but now I'm so scared that it really is something to do with the adjustment.

I am not even close to reaching my goal weight yet and this past month has been really bad because I haven't been able to workout with the dizziness and I actually gained 2 pounds since the adjustment. I'm going to try and go workout today to see if I still get dizzy but I'm afraid that I will have "mental" dizziness because I don't want the removal of the 2cc's to "cure" the dizziness. Does that make any sense?

Someone please help me. I'm really losing faith here!

Hi.

I never experienced the dizziness after a fill but i have been over filled to the point of an ER visit with my surgeon. I didnt want him to remove the entire 1cc that was put in earlier that day but he did bc i wasnt even able to swallow my saliva. After that i went for a .25cc fill. Ask ur surgeon if he can fill u at .25cc or .50cc at a time. Slow and steady wins the race!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm afraid that my surgeon won't do any more fills again since my dizziness has gone away. Even after the 2cc's I still had no restriction. I could eat as much or whatever I wanted still with 6cc's. I don't think that .25 or .5 cc's is going to make any difference in that regard. He told me that if the dizziness didn't go away with removal of the 2cc's then after I found out what the real issue was with the neurologist that he would put that 2cc's plus 2 more in when I came back.

I'm so frustrated right now because I went to workout today for the first time in a month and although I was weak I did not get dizzy. I really am scared that it is my band that was making me dizzy. If that's the case then all of this work that I have done over the past year will be pointless.

I don't think I can do all this on my own. That's the whole reason that I had surgery to begin with. Now I'm unemployed and have no insurance so another surgery is out of the question for now.

I'm sorry for the pity party. I have just been so frustrated with this whole situation for almost 2 months now and now that I'm not dizzy anymore I am scared that I'm going to gain the weight back because I can't have my "tool" to help me!!!

Thanks for lending an ear or in this case an eye to listen to my rants. No one around here understands what I'm going through. Even my doctor said he's never seen a case like mine!

REALIZE Band on 05/04/09 with

I've heard mention on the boards here that certain people will sneeze when they have reached the point of fullness while eating.  That leads me to guess that there may be some sort of connection between the banded stomach and the sinus area.

Just supposing there is some sort of connection in your case, I'm troubled that your surgeon sounds so unwilling to work with you.  If you are fine with 4ccs but have trouble with 6ccs, then why is he saying that you can't have any more fills or that you have to have your band removed?  Maybe you just need to take fills very, very slowly because of your problem....not completely give up on your band!  Sounds to me, he just isn't willing to work with someone who presents a challenge.

There is a lot more traffic on the Lap Band message board than here at the Realize message board.  I would suggest you bring your post over there, as you may have a better chance of finding someone who has experienced similar symptoms like yours with a band.

Good luck.  If you are feeling well now, please try to relax.  Your band with 4ccs is still a better tool than no band at all.

Hi, I'm sorry you're going thru this, I'm sure the stress isn't helping matters any for you.  I don't have any advice but just want to say that maybe your doctor is being too agressive with your fills.  Putting 2 cc's in when you're already at 4 seems kind of agressive to me.  I agree with the previous poster that maybe he should just do small fills.  Even though you feel a small fill won't help you, it may in the long run and it would be worth it rather then having it taken out.   Did he give you a medical reason why he'd have to stop giving you fills if the dizziness continued?  If not, it sounds like he's just shooting from the hip.   I would suggest you wait a week or two and then go back and ask for a small fill and see if you still get the same symptoms.
Good luck and keep us posted!
