Got First Fill on Monday - it's made me HUNGRIER?!!

I don't understand what happened this week at all.  I really haven't had too much hunger since my surgery - not enough to complain about.  And I've tried to take everything in stride post-op.  Just waiting for the first fill and seeing if that makes everything even easier.

I got my first fill on Monday 8/17.  It was 5.5cc's - so not bad for the first one.  And now I am SO HUNGRY all the time!  What the heck?!!!!!!!!

I'm eating about the same amounts of food (small meals - 1/2 cups), mostly protein, not drinking before during or after my meals as recommended.  Really doing the same as I was before the fill.  Only now I'm hungry very quickly - like within an hour or so.  That wasn't happening before the fill.

Anyone else going through this?  I think if it doesn't get better by Monday I'll have to call my surgeon's office and ask about this.

I'm so disappointed...

I had the same thing happen to me.  I was wide open and can eat whatever I wanted.  I tried not to.  After my first fill I had no restriction ( I had 5 ccs).  I now have 7.8 ccs and I have some restriction but not enough.  I can't wait till my 4th fill.  I hear it usually takes 3 to 5 fills to get good restriction.   I can't wait.  Weight loss has been very slow so far.

So sorry that you're going through a slow time with weight loss - it's frustrating when we've gone through the surgery.  Thanks for sharing your experience with me - at least I know I'm not crazy - lol!  I hope the next fill is just right for you!  Wishing you the best :)

Rachel,

The EXACT thing happen to me after my first fill.  I felt restriction for the first couple days, but then it's gone and I get hungry really fast after eating.   I've just been drinking water (faster then the normal sipping) whenever I get a bad hunger pang and it helps a little.

This is the bander's hell my NUT told me about.

I'm in that "buyer's remorse" zone.  I feel like I could have lost the weight I have on my own.  But I think that's just the frustration polluting my attitude.  We'll both get where we need to be - of that I am positive!  My surgeon told me to come see him in the morning and he will put more fluid in my band - that surprised me!  But hopefully it will help.
Take care!!!

I had the same thing happen right after my first fill. I was great for 4 or 5 days... then the swelling went down and I felt like a bottomless pit!!

What helped me was meal replacement shakes and LOTS of fluids!!!!

Hang in there.... I bet you'll feel a difference after your next fill!!! :)

Thanks for the advice - maybe I do need to up my fluids.  I could definitely do that!  I wouldn't be so frustrated if I had felt some restriction for even a day.  But the fill was like someone turned the hunger on - no restriction at all now.  But you're right - liquids liquids liquids!!!!!!

Rachel,

You are in banders hell. Hang in there. It will get better. Your body is still adjusting th the new arrangements. Things will settle down and the anxiety will go away. I was there a couple of months ago.

Thank you!!!!!!  I am frustrated - but we'll see what the dr does tomorrow - he felt like I should have had restriction at least for a day or so.  I really appreciate the encouragement!
