I had my band placed 09/08 and weighed 260.  I did great at 1st.... by Jan. 09 I was down to 210. I have had my band filled 3 times.  My band holds 9cc's and my total fill right now is 5.5 cc's.  Problem is I have gained weight!  I am back up to 230!!  I am so upset with myself and I know that I am not eating and exercising like I was before.  I just can't seem to find the motivation because I am so mad at myself!!  I just wondered if you could tell me (1) what is the average fill of everyone out there and (2) has anyone ever felt like this before?  I knew going in it was gonna take a lot of work on my part.  Problem is I am hungry all the time and I just don't know what to do to get back on track.  Any suggestions?  PLEASE help!!

First of all, what you are going through is normal and natural for many people. Now I need to do a little tough love on ya .. You have a tool - so why not use it ?!?!?!??!

Since you only have 5.5 cc's you probably do not have enough restriction. I have about 7 and I am in a great place. Just enough restriction to keep me from going overboard, but not enough to make me sick all the time. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR !! That's why he's there. Do it now before your too out of control.

Remember, this is a minor set back. Don't let it ruin your progress. You will NOT FAIL on this. YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL !! Just make sure you contact your Doctor and allow this tool to work with you

Plus make sure you attend support groups, and come to the board often. We are here to help.

Feel free to PM me if you want. I (and many of us) are here for you !!

Good luck, and please let me know how it turns out !!

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

Tom~  You are absolutely right!  I called and made an appointment with my Doc.  I guess I just thought that I was at the max with my fills and that was it.  I am so glad to hear that others, including yourself, have them filled way more than mine.  I feel like there is hope again!!!  Thank you SOOO much!  I will let you know what happens.

Thank you !!  Bread is a big downfall and weakness for me.  I know that I need to get back to the basics because I have gotten so far off track.  I made an appt with my Doc today and I purchased another journal so that I can start writting down and keeping of track of everything that goes in my mouth!  It's just nice to know that there are other people out there who are going through the same things as I.

Hin there,

To respond to your questions here goes:

1) There is no average fill amount and this took me a long time to learn and realize. When I first started out I would ask and compare with others Now I know it is completely an individual case by case basis. Some surgerons prefer several small fills .25cc here .50cc there while others are more agressive and do 1cc or even more at a time. My surgeron is agressive and let me say it takes about a month to recover from a fill from him. Also it makes me have to go on liquids for weeks afterwards too.

There is no such thing as a 9cc band to my knowledge there is a 4cc, 7cc, (these sizes are common with surgeries completed outside the US using the IMAMED BANDS 10cc 12cc and a 14cc band.

I have a 10cc Lap Band AP System Band to date I have had three fills totalling 3cc's. I am low on the fill chart I guess I have been lucky.

2) Yes, I have and constantly still do struggle with motivation. Currently I have been the same weight since March. I was so determined to loose 100 lbs by my surgiversary but I fell down the stairs and broke my foot one month before that leaving me 12 lbs from goal and in rut like you would not believe. This entire journey has been a struggle.  For me, I can't stand how I look right now. I feel like I look like the skinniest fat person you ever met. I am flabby and my face has these lines I never thought would be there. I am mad at myself for not being as hard core as I promised and for stopping my strength training. My flabby arms, stomach  and thighs are a constant reminder that I need to get back to work.

I reccently watched the show Ruby on Style network and this woman has really inspired me to get my act back together. I made an appointment to see my surgeon and possbily get another adjustment to refocus me since I am able to eat pasta and bread now.

I believe in you and I know you can do it!!! Just kick yourself and take one day at a time. Next thing you know you will have lost that bonus weight and started a healthy path of Exercise Guru.

Take Care,

Broom

I have a 9cc band and just really got to a good restriction at 8cc. I don't think you have enough restriction. You really need to be agressive with fills. My doctor said he wouldn't go any higher with fills to prevent erosion. I am slow losing but like I said it has taken me from Aug to May to get good restriction.

I have to be honest I have no idea how many cc's I have in my band. Mr. Dr. told me to call him when I felt like I could eat too much. I'm going for my 3rd fill July 23rd. I have consistently lost weight since 2-25-09 until last week (I was on vacation). I stayed the same. I'm not unhappy with that but I did notice I could eat more. Hey I have a tool and I'm not afraid to use it.

I am an avid exerciser and I do journel my food for calorie and protein reasons. Don't be mad at yourself, I just think you need to get a fill and go back to the basics. Portion control, calorie counting and cardio. Once you take it 1 step at a time you will get back on track. GO!!
