It's so hard..I know.  I even lost 40 lbs before my surgery in the hopes that I would avoid the 2 weeks of protein shakes...did not work...LOL.  However, my doc told me that I could eat salads with cheese (no meat) and protein bars to mix up my day along with the protein shakes.  I still lost the extra 20 lbs and my surgery went fine.  I would have the shakes throughout the day and a protein bar in the morning and a salad for lunch.  Just keep thinking of the reason you are doing this!

During my two weeks, I tried to pretend that I had already had the surgery and was eating the way I should......for health, not taste. To help with the hunger inbetween meals, I made sure to drink protein drinks or LOTS of water. I found that when I was hungry, if I would drink a cup of water, I wouldn't be hungry anymore. Also, when you do eat your meals, try to make sure they are high in protein and low in fat/sugar, so that you will feel fuller longer. I ate lots of baked tilapia, catfish and salmon, and also lots of tuna and chicken salad. Eggs are also very good to help hold hunger off.

The good news is I lost 10 pounds in two weeks on my pre-op diet.  And you don't gain it back because then you have your band!   If you think very positively about why you are doing it and the benefits it will provide you on your surgery day, it helps you suffer through the hunger.  It also seems to get easier after a few days, as you get into a routine with it.  Hang in there!  You can do it!

I was on that liquid diet for a month and yes I was huuuungrrrrrrry but it did get better I am now on the puree stage and that is a little better.I cant wait for my first fill. I try to think of hunger pangs as my body burning calories and it makes me feel a little better. Hang in there the good part is coming

I am on the second day of my atkins diet as well. I am hungry, too!!!!!! I need some recipes to help me get through this. Yesterday I was terrible, but today it has been a little bit better. I wish you the best as we go through this.

Like everyone said just stick with it. Funny when I was on my two week pre-op diet of a shake for breakfast and lunch and salad with a veggie for the evening meal...I thought it was difficult also....but I will give you a new perspective. For the last 7-8 days I have had NO protein, No sugar, No carbo's....jus****er, broth, sf jello....that is it....so to me it is harder now than it was then. I agree it is hard just appreciate what you have now becuase after the band ...things change very fast. Of course for the better. Good luck! I hear ya!

Paulette, every time I read about your post op diet I want to cry for you!  I keep thinking that was supposed to be your diet for 7 or 8 hours instead of 7 or 8 days?  I'm going to be so happy for you when you can have more than broth!!
