It just does not work!

I had the 14cc band placed in Aug. 08 and I have had several fills.  Now at 15cc ! (yes 1 over) because it just has not worked for me.  Have had it checked for leaks by removing-measuring-refilling and absolutely no loss of fluid.  Also have had esophagram and other tests to be certain it is still properly placed and it shows "good" narowing restriction and good placement.  Everything checks out good.

I am still able to eat pretty much anything I want and any amount I want similar to before surgery. I even went on a 1 (small) meal/day, mostly protein for 2 months.....gained 6 lbs.!!  If I forget to chew well or drink a gulp during my meal, I wll slime but never bring anything up.  I basically feel like nothing has changed since surgery.  My doctor is stumped and I am frustrated, angry, disappointed and all the rest.  (I should have gone on the cookie diet and lost the 100 lbs in 3 months like the advertise on tv shows....HA!)  Please don't give me advice on properly eating the protein first and foremost, I know and followed all the rules.  (Son has lost 150 lbs on the band and similar for daughter-in-law with RY.  We know the rules and what  is "supposed" to work)  It has been 8 months now and nothing!!

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Maybe it has nothing to do with what your doing and has something to do with an underlying medical problem,  have you had your thyroid checked or your Blood sugar? Im sorry you are having a frustrating time.

Have had regular blood tests done every 6 mos and everything in normal range.  Remember, I am able to eat anything I want and in any amount without any feeling of fullness or restriction.  Very strange.......and frustrating.  Have checked twice for leakage and still holds the full 15cc with no leaks.

Biguy, I'm sorry you're having so many issues. I honestly have never heard of anyone that had this problem. Normally if you see a band patient gaining weight it is because they aren't having fills or following rules. I'm sure it is extremely frustrating to be faced with this problem, especially if you are following all the rules. I hope they are able to find out soon why this isn't working for you. Please let us know when they do. Good luck.

Hope

I guess we are both disappointed...angry...etc. It was a lot to go thru with NO results.  The best I get is sliming if I drink while eating otherwise, no restriction at all.  I am able to eat as much as I like and get no full feeling or restricted feeling or feeling satisfied.   I might as well have not gone thru it all plus pain and expense and just continued on one of my many diets.  If this is a tool, then it is not working as described!  Good Luck in your progress and let me know if you ever find what the problem is and I will do the same.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I am aware of what it takes diet wise, exercise etc.  You are missing my point however.  The band is a tool to assist by NOT allowing you to eat as much and also causing the feeling of fullness with smaller amounts.  In my case, I have NO RESTRICTION and able to eat most anything and in ANY amount I choose.  NO feeling of fullness and NO RESTRICTION at all.  Therefore, the "tool" is NOT working regardless of my food/exercise regimen.

I gotta ask-are you working out?  Doing some cardio?  Moving in some way?  I know thats the only way to loose when you are in bandster hell!  if you arent, then start, if you are, increase.  I can almost guarentee it will help.  Also make sure you ARE NOT DRINKING ANY CALORIES.  If you are anything like me I am my own worst enemy........LOVE the cookies and cakes.  But this is where discipline comes in play.  No sodas with calories/sugar NO starches ... try a diabetic type diet and stick with it for 1 month work in your exercise 6 times a week.  Start slow if you have to but increase 9even for a minute) every day!  Write me in a month and tell me how much you have lost coz I KNOW you will do it!!!!!
