Hi, everyone. I was just banded yesterday and after spending the night in the hospital I am home and feeling pretty good. Actually I just feel a little achy. I was just wondering what liquids you guys consumed during your first week?  Or if  you have any tips?

Thanks, Karen

Hey, Karen. Congratulations on your band! I have a Realize Band and I was banded in March of 2008. Every surgeon is different and of course you should follow your surgeon's advice, but my first week post-op I stuck with clear liquids. I was on a clear liquid diet for 10 days pre-op and I kind of followed thru with that. You may find that you don't have much of an appetite (it's different for everyone!) but whatever you take in, just make sure to sip it slowly and get plenty of water. A good rule is sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk. LOL. I don't know if you are doing protein shakes but if so, sip on one of those throughout the day. It will give you more energy for sure. You'll feel like a whole new person in a few days. Sounds like you are already on your way!

As far as tips go, just remember that your stomach can be a little unpredictable right now so even if you are taking in something you've already tried, take it slow and don't pu**** if it makes you queasy. I also didn't do well with anything really cold or hot after surgery. Room temp was a good rule of thumb for me. Soups, jello, broth, protein shakes and, of course, water were my main staples for at least 10 days after surgery.

I hope everything keeps going smoothly for you!
Hope

Hi Karen,
I had the Realize Band surgery last Feb.  It sounds like you are well on your way to recovery.  Walking helped me the most.  I would walk for about 5-10 minutes- even just laps inside the house, then read or watch tv, then nap, and repeat.

As for liquids.  I did protein shakes, v-8 tomato herb soup, hot tea, broth, and jello.  I found it helped to "eat" the soup or shake with a spoon.  I felt like I was eating instead of always drinking something.

The funny thing is my Dr. hasn't mentioned protein shakes during this first week and I am kind of feeling like I could use one!

Once I made it home from the hospital, I was on full liquids...strained soups, protien shakes, jello, sf popcicles, low sugar yogurt for two weeks.

What are your doc's orders? They are all different.

The one liquid I wish I didnt try....apple juice. That cost me an afternoon in the potty! LOL

The best advice...WALK, WALK, WALK. I walked laps inside my house! LOL I noticed about the third day I was feelin really flu like. I got up to check my temp and decided to walk a little...that did the trick!

Good Luck!!
