My 1st fill on video!

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here on OH.  Today I had my 1st fill and decided to get it on video!  First let me say I'm very camera shy, and usually the one BEHIND the camera.  But then I thought that this could be very educational and informative for those banders who haven't had a fill yet.

I shot the video in HD but had to shrink down the size so I could upload it.  Also please remember I was lying on my back as the doctor was doing the fill with one hand in the air holding the cam.  So I couldn't see what I was taping, and I didn't want to get in the doctors way either. ;)  Saying that I think the video came out well.

The video is just a bit over a minute, the whole fill took under five minutes start to finish.  I know everyone's body is different and different doctors do fills differently so this might not be the same as what you'll have done.

My surgeon Dr Kelly Francis did the fill.  Please let me know what you think of the video! :)

Hi, just saw your video on your first fill, looked painful to me, but I am sure when they numbed you up, you didn't feel anything.  Thank you for sharing, now I know what to expect, and how the fill is done.  Question, do you get charged for each fill?  Not being nosey, but how much does the doctor charge you for this procedure? Farmgirl58, I am charged like a normal doctors visit or something, it's like $10 or $15 with my insurance.  I think it just depends on who your insurance provider is.  But from what I've also heard from others, it was just a standard doctor visit copay.

As for pain, I had none really.  The very first time she stuck me with the needle it's hurt a little bit, but nothing bad at all (for me).  And the fill itself no pain.  I could feel her sucking the little bit of air out that was in the tube.  It made this funny bubble thing in my stomach area.  I actually laughed when she did it.  And as you can tell I was able to hold a digi-cam and hold a conversation with the Doctor while she was doing it, so again no real pain.

Good luck with your fill! :)

Thanks for posting that.
I have not had a fill yet and i've been really wondering how they did it.

Hi there...thanks for showing that...question....I have heard that the shot before the port fill is actually more painful and that it stings like a bee sting.  Is that a true analogy?  Were you given the option before hand or did your doctor suggest you have it?  I am very needle phobic and they both look scary to me....Thanks.

Ann,

Yes you are correct, and the bee sting analogy is pretty good.  I did feel the first shot (the smaller needle), and I'd say I had about 3 little "bee sting" type *****s.  I used to be very needle phobic myself.  I've been getting better of the years.  As for the needle they do the fill for.  I felt nothing from that.  I mean it goes right into to your port.  Now I did feel the bubbles when Dr Francis removed a litle bit of air that was in the tube from the port to the band.  She said that happens sometimes and is normal.  It won't hurt, but it did feel funny/different.

I was nervous about my first fill, but really had nothing to be nervous about.  If your doctor does your fill the same as mine, you should only feel about 10 seconds worth of "pain" from the first needle.  I have a feeling you'll do just fine. :)

Hi guys - I have never had the numbing shot.  The Dr. just goes right in with the fill.
Very easy...  maybe you should try it.  Ask next time.  The fill shot is really quiet painless.

Thanks for the info, that's good to know.  I'll have to look into that on my next fill.  :)
