I believe it's because they don't want you to fill up on fluid instead of protein.

I'm VERY new to this -- but my goal is to get 70 grams of protein a day.

Hoping you find your sweet spot soon! :)

I was told it is because the fluids will wash the food past the band instead of allowing it to move slowly leaving you feeling full longer.

What would you attempt,if you knew you could not fail?

The following analogy that was told to me, and I use is: Think of a kid at the beach with a funnel. When they pour sand into the funnel, the sand comes out slowly. However if you add water to the sand, then the sand comes out much quicker. Think of our operation as the funnel, and protein as the sand.

Also, liquid will take up "valuable" space where your protein should be. Since liquid is expelled quicker then protein, your "full feeling" will disappear quicker.

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

That was a great way to explain it Tom! I also wanted to add that after you've had the band for a while and you try and drink after you've eaten, it is not pretty. I almost threw up the other day because I ate some peanuts and then an animal cracker and then took a big drink of my protein shake. I rushed to the bathroom thinking, that was SO dumb. I know better, but I still forget some times. The food in your pouch is blocking the hole so when you put liquid on top it can make the food go down quicker or it can get stuck on TOP of the food and make you feel really bad. Just some toher reasons to NOT drink while you eat or right after or before :) I'm really wondering why your doctor didn't tell you all of this. My doctor went over everything a million times and why I can and can't do this and that and this and blah blah. I appreciate all of his info now though.

I love milk with my food.  Always have.  So what I do is get a small juice-size glass of milk.  Chew up a small bite of food then drink half the milk and repeat.  I then finish my meal without drinking any more.  I get my food and milk fix, without washing down very much food at all.
