I need some help...please
I had my Realize Band On 12/16/08 and I know exactly how you feel.. Everything I eat I feel like im doing something wrong.. I feel like I have alot of water Retension since I have gotten off the full liquid diet.. I cant do the Puree foods it makes me sick to even think about it.. I eat a small amount of meat and chew chew chew.. Yesterday I ate too much at dinner and suffered the whole night with pains... I keep telling myself its gonna get better after I get a fill... not having restriction is so hard... I see the doctor on the 8th and Im hopeing my first fill will be that day or not long after... I know im not following the mushie diet like im suppose to and Im worried about what my doctor is going to say also.. Good Luck
Nicole, and everyone else here going through bandster hell...I had my band about a month before most of you and have had 2 fills (up to 6.5 cc now) and I have to tell you... IT GETS BETTER HANG IN THERE! The band does not control your hunger...I think that is a common misconception-that you get the band and "wall-a" no more hunger and no more overeating...I like what someone else wrote-remember YOU put the food in your mouth. And also, really ask (at least twice) before eating something "Why am I eating this" Am I really BELLY hungry or head hungry or just wanting to do it because my hands aren't doing anything else right now?" The band will eventually create enough restriction that you hurt when you overeat-not a good feeling -but right now there isn't enough to stop you and you have to do your best and be patient and try to out-maneuver your own head-games. Try writing down-HONESTLY writing down (or logging on the Realize/any diet tracker site) everything you eat each day, and review it at night....ask yourself your reasons for "cheating" or slipping when you do and then write down 2 or 3 better options for your choices when you do-don't beat yourself up; learn from it. This is a lifestyle change, not a temporary reprieve from our old ways and we have to put some checks and balances in place to make it a permanent change. No miracle fixes....but a tool to help us do what we could not do on our own.
Also-ALWAYS ALWAYS....and if you didn't get it the first 2 times ALWAYS be honest with your doctor! They are your support team too, and if you lie to them or with-hold information how can they help you succeed????? Somebody else posted-"I am sure they have heard it before" and they have...but they can't help you overcome it unless you tell them.
Another good trick-DO NOT USE FULL SIZE PLATES OR BOWLS. I use only 4-8 ounce containers for my meals and when they are empty I AM DONE. I also eat with toddler utensils to slow me down. Yes, my stomach still growls but I decided to take up crocheting to occupy my hands (everyone got a blanket for Christmas..LOL) Only you can figure what works best; but I promise you....IT GETS BETTER AND YOU GET USED TO IT! Don't make the transition longer by pushing the envelope now.
A very good friend of mine who was banded over 2 years ago told me (and it is SO true)...you will NEVER feel "belly" full again; and you will miss that feeling and try to achieve it-but don't make the mistake of trying to eat until you feel full-you can't achieve it because 3/4 of your stomach is no longer used. You feel "done" or sated, or chest tightness so stop when your mind says "done" not "full". They are 2 very different feelings and you have to learn to recognize the "done" instead of trying to achieve "full".
Always-PROTEIN FIRST-it is more filling and what you need right now. GOOD LUCK!
