When to return to work after surgery

 Hi,
I'm having my lapband in 2 weeks.  I have scheduled 9 days off but have been told by some people to take 2 weeks.  Any feedback from any of you about whether you could return to work in 9 days.

Thanks
Deborah

it all depends on what you do for a living.  if you are at a desk all day, maybe a week, after four days i was going stir crazy.  it also depends on how fast your body heals.

It depends I took 4 weeks off, since it was covered under my short term disability. Everyone is different, so you have to judge how you feel.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would've been able to go back after two weeks (I have a desk job), but took advantage of the short term disability I received and went back instead after three weeks.

I took the 20th nov - 1 dec. I will admit I am more tired in the evening after working all day....
I am fine, and I am a nurse....
so it depends on your job. Take your time, and make sure you rest and recover!

I took two weeks.  I really really needed the 1st week.  By the end of the 2nd week I was enjoying just being off and resting.  I was not sorry I took the 2 weeks by any means.

Thanks for the info.  I'm an ICU/transport nurse and work 12 hour shifts so I'm a little concerned about trying to go back to early.  So you took about 10 days.  Did that feel enough time.  Would you take longer if you did it again?
Thanks
Deborah

I was off a week and a half.  I have a desk job, but when I went back the first few days really kicked my butt.  That was last week.  I'm feeling better now, but still somewhat tired in the evenings after working all day.

I have the same question about recovery time.  I'm a teacher, so I really can't take time off from work - in a lot of ways it's more difficult to get a substitute and create lesson plans than it is to just go in to work.  Becuase of that, I was hoping to schedule the surgery for my spring break, so that I would have a week at home, and then only have to take a few days off.  Are there any teachers out there who have had the surgery?  How was returning to school after the surgery?
