I would like to know if anyone else got this. I am approved for my lap band surgery but now i get a letter that my acute inpatient hospital stay is denied after i was approved for 23 hours. Just what does this mean that I get kicked out of the hospital after i recover from the anesthesia. Has anyone ever come home the same day after surgery ? Please let me know so i know what course of action I have to take.

Oh, I did not have anything denied, at least I didn't think, but I did come home the same day.  Unless there is a problem, my doc sends home.  My mother got sent home as well.  My father-in-law had to stay, but he had additional issues that were due to an existing condition and previous surgery, but he got to go home the very next morning.

As far as I have read and researched, the gastric bands (Realize and Lap) pretty much are just day surgery.

Losing weight and loving it!  Feeling better every day!

I'm scheduled to have surgery on the 25th. The suregery is being performed at a out patient surgical center.  No stay expected.  If they have complications I would be transfered to a full service hospital.

I was banded on November 11th, and I came home the same day. It depends on how healthy you are, my surgeon told me that since I was pretty healthy that I would be coming home the same day.  I was ok, with coming home the same day.  You may be a little sore but that is usually the worst.

I went into surgery at 9 am, and was on the way home at about 2pm.
My surgeon will only do the outpatient surgery for patients under 50 BMI, without certain co-morbidities.
I had to be able to walk around and drink water before i could go. I was thrilled to go home. My ex-husband took several days off from work to wait on me, and had to help me into the bed for those days since the bed was high.

Thanks for all the help and feedback. I talked to my insurance coordinator and she told me they submitted a 24 hour stay accidently and they then submitted for the 23 hours and was ok'd. So i told her to please call me next time if they have a mixup so i don't have to go through the heartache beforehand. Again thanks to all my sisters and brother for the help.

Most Realize lap band procedures are done on an outpatient basis....usually the stay is no more than 24hrs.....farmgirl58

I had mine on Wed @ 10am and was home Thursday by 2:00.  BUT i had scar tissue to be removed from a previous surgery.  My surgeon requires an overnight stay.  I am glad that I stayed, just because I got sick.  The majority go home the same day though!

Congrats on your approval!
