Eating is no fun

I am having a terrible time with my diet.  I am only getting around 500-600 calories a day and I am short on my protein by 10-15 grams.  Carbs.....forget it.  Can NOT get those under control.....  I am way over almost everyday..... I can't seem to cut them out completely....  any suggestions???  Is there anything I can substitute?  I can't seem to just eat meat and vegetables all the time....

I had my  first fill a couple of weeks ago and since then when I eat I get this, pressure (for lack of a better word) after I eat.  I haven't gotten sick but I don't feel good.  Is this because I am eating too fast or not chewing properly?  or both?  '

I also have an issue (mental I'm sure) that all the fun has been taken out of eating.  I no longer enjoy sitting down to a good meal, especially when I have to chew until there is no taste left.  Do you think that will change or is that just the way it is going to be from now on?

Thanks for listening.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated....

Hi Laura, you are still new at this, it will get better.

I know that it is hard to eat protein first followed by vegetables. If you eat your protein first you may be able to get in your protein count for the day. Have you tried tilapia or salmon for lunch? What about chicken ot tuna salad? I try really hard to eat meat, cheese and eggs first.
You will not get this pressure you are feeling if you take smaller bites and chew, chew, chew. It is hard for me to take smaller bites but it does help. It takes awhile to change old eating habits. I like the feeling of food in my mouth and it doesn't feel the same when you take smaller bites, but I also know that it is too much to swallow at one time and then it gets stuck. I personally don't like that feeling so I try to slow down how fast I'm eating.

Good luck with changing your habits.

Yes, there are a lot of new habits you have to get used to.  Does your doctor allow you snacks?  We are allowed 3 meals and 3 snacks.   Our snacks are supposed to be protein based.   A few suggestions of these are cheese, apple slices with peanut butter, Hillshire Farms Rotisserie chicken and cheese, fresh vegies and dip (cottage cheese and ranch dip mix blended together in the blender).

What also helps is to track your food.  I use the Daily Plate.  You get a much better idea of how much you are eating.   You can even create meals on there, especially if you eat the same things over and over (like I do) and you can even enter a recipe and it will break down the nutritional values for you.

I'm still having a lot of trouble with carbs.  I've been limited to 60 grams of carbs a day.  That's very hard for me.  I also have trouble with exercise, but am starting to realize that I really need exercise because I'm not losing any weight.  I'm still not a full restriction yet either.  Very close though.

Now if only I can practice what I preach.....

Hello,

How much cottage cheese do you use for the dip?  What is the Daily Plate?

Many Thanks in advance.

God Bless,

I'm guessing it's a 16 oz. container.  The 8 oz. looks kind of small.  I still haven't tried the dip but it looks good.

There are a few places on line that you can track you food.  Calorie King is one, Spark People is another I know there are others too but I use The Daily Plate.  Here's is URL for it:

It takes a while to get used to it, but once you get the hang of putting in the info it gets easier.  The more you use it the easier it gets.

I wish you luck.
