Diet Progression
Hi!
I did liquids for 2 weeks, mushies for 2 weeks, and soft foods for 2 weeks. After that it was trial and error. He told me at my last appointment (which was at the end of Sept.--3.5 months out) that I could try steak and such, but I had already tried them. As long as they aren't dry and I chewed small bites well, it was fine. I followed his guidelines for the most part, though. I didn't want to mess anything up. Good luck!

I was just banded last Thursday and my surgeon's meal plan is clear liquids for the first 5-7 days, then days 8-10 he had what is called "select foods" which is all the liquids and protein drinks I was drinking before, but now adding egg beaters, low carb yogurt, re-fried beans, pudding, and cottage cheese. I did so well on those that I actually was given the go ahead to start the soft food diet yesterday which is what I just listed (without as much broth and protein drinks) but with fish, chicken, turkey, turkey ham, jerky, cheese, lean pork, and a few veggies. I am to follow the soft food diet for a minimum of 3 weeks.
I guess it really depends on the surgeon, they all have their own ideas of meal plans.

After my surgery I was on liquids for 1 week, then mushies for 1 week, then slowly incorporate solid foods. I don't eat red meat (I just don't like the taste and texture) so I haven't tried it, but my surgeon has never said not to eat steak. I would just be sure to take small bites and chew well when you do start eating it. But your surgeon knows best, so if he/she says no red meat, then I'd take their advise.
