How is your Realize band working for you?

I had surgery on the 24th of September, Most of my incision sites are healed now with the exception of the large one for the port which is still leaking a little so i have to wear a bandage.   Amazingly enough i have not weighed since the surgery I think i may go weigh today.  I realize i have lost quite a bit of weight so far and can tell it in my clothes.   I am getting hungry pretty often now and filling up after about a cup or so of food.  I can tell when the food passes the band i get a little pain in my stomach.  I am tolerating everything well so far i move to more solid foods today.  I do have a bit of a problem when i eat pecans a little discomfort.    I hope i get a fill soon because i am surprised at the amount of food i can eat, i thought it would be much less.   I guess it is much less now i used to eat a lot more.

Did your surgeon just stitch your wounds closed?  I haven't had any problems with my port wound leaking, but my surgeon gave me internal stitches as well as some sort of glue on all of the wounds.  I have heard a lot of people having the issue with the leaking and I wonder if it is because they didn't have glue applied.

Congrats on the solid foods, you must be excited!  Don't worry about the amount you can eat, as I understand it that happens to everyone before they have had a fill.

My realize band was implanted on June 25th and it's my 4th child!!!  I absolutely love it!  I have had no issues that weren't self derived...I ate celery with peanut butter.....do not make that mistake.  Hamburger does not work well for me and as such I have no taste for it now.  I did have to have my band drained last Wednesday to prepare for the removal of my gallbladder this past Monday.  I am enjoying eating again...wow, is that nice.  However, I feel guilty when I overdo it...and I have overdone it.
I have lost 40 pounds and 6 sizes since my band was placed and let me tell you, it feels good.
My incisions were closed with a waterproof, clear surgical tape.  They healed nicely and are no longer tender.  I can feel the port under the skin and it's nice to know I can find it at the poke of a finger...I've heard from others that couldn't.
My surgeon is the best, although he is conservative with the amount he fills.  He begins fills at one month and continues monthly with just a few ccs until he gets you to a good restrictive spot.  I have never thrown up from food being stuck....my 7 of my friends on the other hand, use another local physician and two of them have had problems just recently.  One got pneumonia because she was too tight and liquid got into her lungs and another woke up in a pool of her own saliva.  She was too tight to swallow her own spit.
Good luck to you!

I know what you mean about the over doing it with the food.  I haven't got stuck or sick, but just tonight I ate a whole snack pack (the container of pudding that you would pack in your kid's lunch or whatever) container of vanilla pudding.  It said it was low in calories and sugar free with Splenda instead, but still.  I know I should have only had 2 ounces at the very most, but it was too damn good!!  I feel bad now, but what can I do?  I will just have to have more self-control with it the next time I eat one.  SIGH!

I am certain that I have a skewed look at this but I tend to not measure and just eat what I want...now that I have restriction.  I order what I want in restaurants or eat what I want at home...satisfaction is the key...as far as I am concerned.  If I eat what I want, eat all I want, feel satisfied with what I've eaten, I'm going to be happy.  Well, now that I have restriction; I can't eat all that much and I refuse to beat myself up daily over eating less than I did before the band.  Your time is coming...just don't be so tough on yourself, you need to your biggest fan and albeit the moderator of your eating habits...not necessarily a watch dog.
In a nut shell...when you get to your sweet spot, the food can't stay in, you will not want to eat as much and you the pounds will melt away.  It will happen, you're gonna be a loser....lol.
Good luck,
Regina

I can't wait until I am a loser like you!    Just kidding, but I can't wait until I am at my "sweet spot", I know I will get there eventually.  I really can't wait though!!  Until that time, I will just try to watch my portions as much as possible (especially when it comes to things that go down so easy like SF ice cream or pudding).
